Tulip Siddiq Visit to Brookfield

We were delighted to welcome Tulip Siddiq MP to Brookfield, where she spent time speaking with our children about her life as a Member of Parliament, her background, and the important work she does representing her constituents.
Tulip gave a fascinating insight into what it means to be an MP, sharing stories about her journey into politics and the responsibilities that come with serving in public office. She also took the time to answer questions from our pupils, who impressed everyone with their curiosity, confidence and thoughtfulness.
The children asked a range of brilliant questions, including how voting works, what the hardest part of being an MP is, and one particularly memorable question came from a Year 2 pupil, who asked whether Sir Keir Starmer was still going to be the Prime Minister!
Tulip was an engaging, warm and thoughtful speaker who connected wonderfully with the children. It was a real privilege for our pupils to hear directly from someone working at the heart of British politics, and the visit provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about democracy, public service and leadership.
We are incredibly grateful to Tulip for taking the time to visit Brookfield and inspire our young learners.

A Windrush Lime Celebration
Here at Brookfield, we are also going to mark Windrush day both in the school week and with an after school celebration. Join us for a Windrush Lime on 26 June which marks Windrush Day and is an occasion for togetherness, music and fun.
We are inviting families to bring a dish or a drink to share as part of the after school event and we are really pleased to welcome the calypsonian Tobago Crusoe who was a consultant for the Olivier award-winning musical Paddington and has appeared in, and written and performed songs for, the films Paddington and Paddington II.
If you would like to contribute or want to know more, please contact Christel at: c.stainfield-bruce@brookfield.camden.sch.uk
A little bit about Windrush Day:
A large group of people from the Caribbean crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Britain on the Empire Windrush ship, arriving on 22nd June 1948. This is why Windrush Day is celebrated every year.
From the 1940s to the 1970s, thousands of people left their homes to start a new life, and, initially on the British Government’s invitation. They came to be known as the Windrush Generation and they helped to rebuild and transform England. They made a huge impact on all aspects of British life: from their contributions to the NHS and health research, to transport, politics, businesses, sport, literature, and culture.
