Personal development and wellbeing at Brookfield
We have designed children’s experience at Brookfield so that challenge and responsibility grow as they do. Our aim is for every pupil to leave us ready academically, emotionally and socially for secondary school, and with the confidence to thrive throughout life.
Our school values guide this journey: we take responsibility, we rise to challenges, we are curious and we are creative. Through PSHE, assemblies and everyday school life, pupils learn about healthy relationships, wellbeing, rights and responsibilities. They explore British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, and learn how to put these into practice.
Children learn that their voice matters and they can use it. Through Young Leaders, Brookfield Parliament, weekly pupil voice sessions and contributions to our newsletter, they share ideas, represent others and help improve school life.
We give pupils meaningful challenges as they grow: preparing to perform Shakespeare, applying and interviewing for leadership roles, learning about the world of work, running a business, taking part in Forest School, helping to keep our school safe and tidy, and spending a week away from home on a residential visit. Each experience helps children practise courage, cooperation, independence and perseverance, with the support they need to succeed.
It is our responsibility to make these opportunities accessible to every child. We want pupils to know that they belong and matter in our community, that they can face challenges and overcome them, and that they can achieve at school, at home and beyond.
