Simon's Update
We’ve had another busy and lovely week in school, with lots going on across all year groups.
On Monday, I introduced the children to our new Brookfield Parliament. This forms part of our School Development Plan priority to strengthen pupils’ understanding and experience of democracy as part of their wider personal development.
Each class, from Year 1 to Year 6, will elect two Brookfield MPs to represent them. The MPs will listen to the views and ideas of their classmates and bring these to monthly Parliament meetings, where they will discuss important school issues and think about ways we can make Brookfield even better.
I will also be allocating a small budget for our MPs to decide how best to use for the benefit of the school, giving them a real opportunity to take responsibility and make a difference.
This week, children have been encouraged to think about whether they would like to stand for election and what makes a good representative — someone who listens carefully, acts responsibly and represents the views of the whole class fairly.
Next week, candidates will prepare and deliver a short speech to their classmates before each class holds a secret ballot to elect two representatvies. Every child will have the opportunity to vote, and the elected members of parliament will represent their classes for the academic year. Any children.who would like to stand for election will be supported with a prompt sheet to take home, so please ask your child if they wish to
We’re really looking forward to seeing the Brookfield Parliament take shape and to giving pupils an even stronger voice in the life and development of our school.
Our Learning Week
Cross Country Heroes
A huge well done to our fantastic Year 3–6 cross-country heroes, who represented the school brilliantly at Friday’s cross-country competition against other London schools.
We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. They showed determination, resilience, teamwork and a wonderful sporting spirit throughout the event even when the summer sun returned to make us all boiling hot!
A huge thank you also goes to all the staff and parents who came along to support the children and help make the event such a positive experience.
And a very special thank you to David, who has been running our cross-country club every Friday on the Heath and preparing the children so enthusiastically for events like this. His commitment, encouragement and energy make such a difference — what a star!
Well done to everyone involved. We are very proud of our cross-country heroes.
Attendance Update
We have made a fantastic start to the year at Brookfield, with really strong attendance across the school. I would like to say a big thank you to all of our families for the support you give in making sure children are in school, on time and ready to learn each day - our attendance figues for the start of the year is a very helpful number and it makes a big difference for children's learning so we are all really encouraged by a good start to the year!
To celebrate attendance, every Friday, we hold an assembly to celebrate attendance across the school. The class with the highest attendance in Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6 gets to look after one of our cuddly Attendance Aardvarks for the week! The children are encouraged to design and create costumes for our cuddly attendance aardvarks and we've had super hero aardvarks, spooky aardvarks and at least one harry potter aardvark over the past year!
We will also celebrate children who achieve 100% attendance during the week, helping to recognise their efforts and keep everyone encouraged about the importance of being in school every day.

Some key dates from the Brookfield School community
Thursday 22 October from 7pm
Brookfield School Community parents’ evening at the school. We hope to see lots of you there, Simon the headteacher will talk about how he plans to spend the funds raised by our charity in the coming academic year. We will run a bar with refreshments and snacks, more details to follow.

Saturday 5 December 12-3pm is officially the date for the Brookfield School Community Winter Fair. We will share more news in the coming weeks.
