Job Description: SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

School: Brookfield Primary School

Reports to: Headteacher Works closely with: Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion & Behaviour)

Salary: Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS) + SEN Allowance

This post will initially be offered on a one-year fixed-term basis, with a view to becoming permanent following a successful review of the role and provision.

Purpose of the Role

Brookfield Primary School is seeking a committed and skilled SENCo to lead and coordinate provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities across our two-form entry school, including our two nursery settings. Working closely with the Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and Behaviour, you will play a key role in ensuring high-quality, inclusive practice across the school. You will support staff to deliver effective adaptive teaching, oversee SEND provision, and work in partnership with families and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for all pupils.

This role offers the opportunity to shape provision in a school with a strong commitment to inclusion, while balancing high expectations with a clear focus on consistency, safety and impact.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead the development, implementation and review of the school’s SEND policy and provision

• Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015)

• Maintain and regularly review the SEND register

• Monitor the quality of provision and outcomes for pupils with SEND across the school

• Contribute to the school’s self-evaluation and improvement planning in relation to SEND Quality of Education & Inclusion

• Promote high-quality teaching (Quality First Teaching) as the primary approach to meeting SEND needs

• Support teachers to: o Adapt teaching and resources effectively o Use appropriate scaffolds and interventions o Address misconceptions Brookfield Primary School

• Work with the Assistant Head to ensure alignment between SEND provision and behaviour systems • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and ensure they are evidence-based and impactful Early Years & Nursery Provision

• Oversee SEND provision across both nursery settings and Reception

• Ensure early identification and intervention for pupils with additional needs

• Support staff in delivering: o Safe, inclusive provision o Appropriate staffing models o Adapted learning environments

• Liaise with external professionals and families to support children with complex needs Assessment, Monitoring & Outcomes

• Track progress of pupils with SEND across the school

• Analyse data to identify trends, gaps and priorities

• Ensure clear provision mapping and evaluation of impact

• Prepare reports for SLT and governors on SEND provision and outcomes Working with Staff

• Provide guidance and support to teachers and support staff

• Lead CPD on SEND, inclusion and adaptive teaching

• Support staff in implementing consistent approaches across the school

• Contribute to performance management where appropriate

Person Specification (Summary)

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete)

• Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice

• Experience of working with pupils with a range of SEND needs

• Ability to lead, influence and support staff effectively

• Strong organisational and communication skills
