Simon’s update
Welcome back to Spring 2!
Unbelievably, we are already halfway through the year — as I mentioned before, it really does seem to be flying by.
A huge well done to our Year 4 children this week, who have taken part in the first round of their swimming lessons. For those who may not know, we timetable our statutory swimming sessions into an intensive two-week block. Research suggests that children make more rapid progress in their aquatic skills through concentrated exposure, and this approach certainly seems to be paying off. The children have loved the change to their timetable and have quite literally dived straight into the experience — please forgive the puns!
I would also like to give a big shout out to all of our pupils for the tremendous effort they have put into improving their handwriting this year. We introduced short, daily practice sessions to raise standards across the school, and the impact has been significant. While we have awarded a few prizes to recognise particularly notable improvement, every child has worked incredibly hard, and this is clearly evident in the presentation of work across all subjects.
Rhys, our Deputy Head, has today launched a new home writing competition. This half term’s challenge is to write a haiku poem. For anyone who may need a quick reminder, a haiku is a traditional Japanese poem made up of three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Haikus often focus on nature or a moment in time and aim to capture a feeling or image in just a few carefully chosen words. We look forward to reading the children’s creative entries.
Also, if you are looking for ways to extend your child’s learning at home, please visit our website where you will find curriculum projects and suggested activities in maths and English.
https://www.brookfield.camden.sch.uk/Learning/Home-Learning/
Should your child choose to complete any of these, we would be delighted to display their work in class and provide an opportunity for them to share it with their peers.
Wishing you all a positive and productive half term ahead.

World Book Day celebrations
World Book day is taking place next Thursday, 5th March and we will be celebrating throughout the week, with all kinds of activities across the school. On Thursday, children are of course invited to come dressed as their favourite Book characters or in an outift you like to read in (maybe in your pyjamas!)...
Open Afternoon
We are looking forward to welcoming Parents and Carers to our Open Afternoon on Thursday 26th March. Bookings are available from 1.30pm, and school will close at 1pm for all children Catkin to Year 6 (Blossom nursery will remain open).
You can make an appointment with the class teacher via Scopay
Please note that for Catkin class, there is a physical sign up sheet which you can complete at drop off or pick up.
Eid Celebration
We hope that you can join us for our Eid Celebration after school on Monday 23rd March. If you are able to help volunteer on the day, or bring along a food dish or snack to share, we would really appreciate it. At last years event, the Henna stall was very busy - it would be great to have 1 or 2 more volunteers that can do some very simple designs! (cones provided). If you would like to get involved, please email Alaa here
