Simon's Update

As we reach the final week of half term, it has been a joy to celebrate some truly lovely moments across the school.

We began the week with our fantastic Year 5 Curiosity Convention. Over the past half term, Year 5 pupils have been working on a project based on a personal passion or interest. Each child created a display board, a 3D model and an accompanying book to share their knowledge and enthusiasm, culminating in a wonderful exhibition. We love creating opportunities where children have a clear outcome to work towards, and the pride Year 5 showed in presenting their projects was wonderful to see. Younger pupils, parents and carers thoroughly enjoyed visiting the exhibition and learning from the children’s work.

Looking ahead, next term Year 4 will begin their work as part of the Shakespeare Project, which will once again culminate in a performance in a real theatre. This project has become a truly integral part of a child’s experience at Brookfield, and we are always looking for ways to create rich opportunities where children can develop confidence, creativity and memorable experiences through ambitious projects.

I also couldn’t finish the half term without updating you on the long-running game of Traitors taking place among staff at Brookfield! Each staff member was secretly given a colleague to “target”, an object to deliver, and a specific location in which to do it — a bit like a real-life game of Cluedo. Many of the children quickly became aware of the game and loved watching teachers and support staff concoct increasingly devious plans. I was personally taken out in Blossom Nursery by the wonderful Marcia, who handed me a pair of pyjamas under the guise that they were to be delivered to Derek, our Site Manager! The game culminated in a staff event last night, where a very credible Claudia Winkleman stand in presided over the treacherous last round.

Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our staff, children and families for another busy and positive half term. I hope everyone enjoys a week of rest and relaxation (as much as possible!), and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 24th February.

Whole School News

Open Afternoon

Our spring term Open Afternoon will take place on Thursday 26th March, from 1.30pm - 7pm. School closes for children from Catkin - Year 6 at 1pm. Open afternoon is an opportunity for Parents and Carers to meet with their class teacher, and discuss their progress and achievements during a 10 minute appointment.

To make your appointment to meet with the class teacher, please book your slot via Scopay. If you do not have a Scopay account, you can contact Carole in the office, who will send you a unique link code to use.

For children in Catkin, please sign up via the sheet in Catkin class at either pick up or drop off.

Blossom nursery will be open as normal, and will not close early.

Dog mess outside the school

We are aware that dog mess outside of the school, and on the surrounding roads remains an issue. We have met with the Camden Community Safety Enforcement office for this area, and they have assured us of the councils commitment to tackling this problem. They will be regularly patrolling the area, and can issue on the spot fines of up to £1000 to anyone found not cleaning up after their dogs. We encourage you to download the Camden Clean Street app, so that you can report this problem.

We will also be encouraging children to create posters to tackle this anti social behaviour in school - this can also be a home learning project.

Brookfield School Community

Thank you everyone for contributing all the goodies to our Valentine's Day bake sale, and Thank you to everyone for buying up the lovely treats! - You raised almost £400 for our school!

Join us again on Wednesday 25th February at pick up in the infants playground for more cake: our school community celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Horse!

Saving the Planet with Brookfield

Don't forget to check for any lost property once the children go back to school after half term - hopefully with an improvement in the weather, we will regularly display lost property in the playgrounds for you to collect at the end of the school day.

Last week, we shared some ideas for food swaps you can make to help make a difference to the planet... will you be trying any of these out over the half term?! Here's a short reminder of the swaps you can make...

1) Swap Beef or lamb for chicken or pork

2) Consume less red meat

3) Add in plant based meals
