Brookfield Primary

Art

At Brookfield, we strive to foster a culture where creativity is at the heart of every child’s school experience.

Art at Brookfield inspires curiosity, creativity, and self-expression. By immersing students in diverse artistic styles and techniques, we nurture their emotional vocabulary, critical thinking, and appreciation for beauty. Our curriculum goes beyond the expectations of the National Curriculum, enriching children’s experience of the arts through specialist workshops and whole-school projects. Rooted in London’s vibrant artistic heritage, we connect children with the city’s thriving creative community through exhibitions, Fabulous Arts at Brookfield workshops, and educational outings that foster pride and a sense of belonging.

Our curriculum takes pupils on a journey through drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles and digital media, carefully building knowledge and skills year by year. Each unit gives children the chance to explore a wide variety of techniques, experiment with materials, and develop their own creative voice. We make sure children learn about a diverse range of artists, designers, craftspeople and movements – from traditional masters to contemporary, global artists – so that every pupil can see themselves reflected in the art world and discover new ways of thinking about creativity.

Art at Brookfield is exciting, practical, and purposeful. Children are given amazing opportunities to create and exhibit their work, whether it’s displaying collaborative projects in the hall, sharing sketchbooks with parents, or celebrating achievements in whole-school exhibitions. We teach pupils to reflect on their own and others’ artwork, developing curiosity, resilience and pride in their achievements. By the time they leave us, children have a secure understanding of artistic processes, confidence to express their ideas visually, and a sense that art is a powerful way to connect, communicate and make a difference in the world.
