All children in Key Stage 2 classes receive weekly French lessons taught by the teachers, and supported by a language’s specialist from The Hall school. Topics range from greetings and days of the week in Year 3, to writing extended sentences in Year 6. All topics are taught over a two week period, with an oral and literacy focus. This gives the children a chance to develop their linguistic skills, as well as their written French.
The school has also extended its provision of French in to Key Stage 1 and Reception, as we understand the value of introducing languages early. Over the past three years Brookfield has developed strong links with a Parisian school, and each year our two Y5 classes visit the French school as part of a day trip to Paris.
