Laurel’s Update

This morning, our children were sharing some of the inspirational women they have been learning about as part of our Black History Month (see pictures below). In assembly, I enjoyed talking about the success of Simone Biles, American gymnast, as she celebrated winning the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Simone’s story is a great example of our value achievement; having overcome challenges and taken a break from the sport to focus on her mental health, only to return so triumphantly.

Thanks to the parents and carers who attended the Brookfield School Community (PTA) Annual General Meeting on Tuesday evening. I continue to be so grateful for the inclusive, practical and financial support of our parents and carers exemplified by two recent events: the film night and bake sale.

Our school currently has a third of children who are eligible for free school meals and the school receives extra funding from the government to support their learning and development, known as the Pupil Premium. Even though the Mayor of London is currently funding all primary aged children to have free school lunches, it is important for families to still apply using this link (https://accountforms.camden.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals/) if you receive any of these benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit – your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including benefits)
  • Child Tax Credit with a taxable income of no more than £16,190 and not in receipt of Working Tax Credit
  • the Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
  • support from the National Asylum Support Service (NASS)

Please let us know if you need any help with this process and you can also call 020 7974 5771 (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9am – 3pm).

I wish all our children and families lovely October half term breaks and look forward to seeing you on Monday 30th October from 8.45am.
