The children have really enjoyed learning two Slovakian songs with Gabi, our Year 1 Learning Support Assistant. Thank you very much Gabi!

National Poetry Day
This week the children have been reading poems in class to celebrate National Poetry day. We held a competition, asking the children to write a poem with the theme 'refuge in nature' - the winner of each year group will have their poem published in next weeks newsetter, and one lucky winner, will have a line of their poem embossed onto the planters in the forest garden!
Book your Open Afternoon appointment
We are looking forward to welcoming Parents and Carers to our Open Afternoon on Thursday 9th November between 1.30 - 7pm. This is an opportunity to visit your child's class and meet their teacher for a 10 minute appointment.
You can now book your Open afternoon appointment on Scopay
If you do not have a Scopay account, you need to email us, so that we can send you a link code to set up your account. Carole has been emailing lots of new families with these codes, so if you haven't had it (and you've checked your junk mail!) please do get in touch with her here
Pictures
Do you have a Polaroid or Instamax camera? We are updating our staff photo board, but no longer have access to the camera we used last year. If you can help us out by lending us one, we would really appreciate it. Please get in touch with Rosie
We are preparing for a very busy few days before half term - hold onto your (spooky) hats!
Movie Night (Friday 13/10)
Our very first Movie Night takes place this evening on Friday 13th of October. We were surprised and delighted to see how fast the tickets went!
Why limiting the number of spaces: For this first try, we decided to limit the tickets to 80 - later increased to 100. We wanted to get a feeling for how noisy the room gets, how much space everyone needs to be comfortable for a movie, and if the food and snacks are manageable. We realise a lot of you would have liked to attend and didn't get tickets, and we're so sorry! We're hoping to be able to have more Movie Nights in the future. We'll review how well the first evening goes to decide how many tickets to create for the next event - please give feedback.
How to come: Please come to the Infant Playground's gates (Croftdown Road) at 6pm. We'll watch a short film while everyone gets ready.
What to bring: Blankets and pillows to sit on the floor.
Food and drinks: Each ticket includes a free serving of popcorn! We will sell hotdogs (including veggie and gluten free, 1 per person), fruit skewers, fruit juices and a few packets of crisps.
Vote on our name (Closing 16/10)
Thank you so much for submitting your thoughts and ideas on how you would like to call the PTA. PTA means Parent-Teacher Association, and it's usually how we refer to our charity, although it's officially called the Brookfield Primary School Association. Not all Brookfield families include parents, and not all staff are teachers. We want all of you to feel included, because we are all members of the association 🙂
Vote online: https://forms.gle/CDPqH6dx7taALunk9
Until: The online votes will finish on Monday 16th of October 2023 at midnight.
Vote in person: Monday 16th, in the Infant Playground. Between 8:50 and 9:05am.
Annual General Meeting (Tuesday 17/10 - 8pm)
Our annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Tuesday 17th of October. Please note that there were announcements with different times, the AGM will start at 8pm.
How to join in person: Brookfield School, Bottom Hall. Ring the bell for the bottom hall at the Infant Playground's gates (Croftdown Road).
Join online: https://meet.google.com/xry-yrfc-swg
What is it for: We will review last year's events and fundraising, and discuss how the monies were spent in the past. We will elect a new committee, and discuss projects for the coming year. We will also confirm our new name, see details about the vote above.
Halloween Bake Sale and Costume Swap (Thursday 19/10 - 3:25pm)
A spooky date for your diaries: our first bake sale, thanks to Year 6, on Thursday 19th of October.
Where and when: Junior playground (Chester road entrance), straight after pick up at 3.25pm.
Cakes: If you can contribute, please bring cakes and other delicious snacks at the office on the day or straight to the sale at pickup. All cakes are very welcome, a Halloween twist is a bonus - but remember, no nuts!
Costumes: Any Halloween costumes you want to exchange or give away would make a great contribution to the costume swap stall. You don't need to bring a costume to take one.
Volunteers needed
We are looking for adult volunteers to come in once a week and play maths games with individuals and pairs of children to support the development of their number fluency. The volunteers would be given training in a range of dice games to play with the children in the school. If this is something you are interested in, please email Lucy (Maths Leader) on l.winser@brookfield.camden.sch.uk.Â

Hampden Drop In Play and Stay.docx
Welcome to the Brookfield Climate Action Group (CAG) section of the Brookfield newsletter.
The recent pleasant but unusual spell of balmy weather means we’re still waiting for the drop in temperature, as are the trees, without which they don’t turn their autumnal colours. Some of us are finding it a little bit unsettling to be in our summer clothes in nearly mid October, along with the global news of course.
Translating anxiety into action is a process and can’t be done alone. It’s tempting for all of us to turn away from the predicament we face - life can be so busy, especially with children.
One place for info, support and finding community is through XR, perhaps starting with one of their talks:
https://actionnetwork.org/events/heading-for-extinction-and-what-to-do-about-it-121?source=London&link_id=1&can_id=cc39803c270c25b7d0ee8e603eaf9724&email_referrer=email_2074353&email_subject=new-heading-for-extinction-talk
There’s also Mothers CAN, who seek to engage as many mothers as possible, especially those who have never previously been involved in climate action. On the 8th November at 8pm they’re running an online talk called ‘Reimagining Parenting for a Threatened World’ and they also hold regular welcome calls.

Another good local place to start is with us; you can join the CAG by emailing Rosanna: r.selway@icloud.net  or  Kate: kate.taylor@gmail.com
