Laurel’s Update

Welcome to our new school year 2023-24! It has been a pleasure to see returning children and it is wonderful to be welcoming new children and families to Brookfield.

This September we are particularly excited about our new Forest Garden in the Junior playground. Thanks to the creativity of our children, efforts of the Eco-committee, PTA and parents, and the leadership of our brilliant Forest School Gardener Rob, a large area of our school grounds has been totally transformed. Please visit before or after school and see the pictures below.

Please take a look at the dates coming up this term – in particular the Curriculum Meetings for years 1-6. This is an opportunity for you to meet all the staff teaching your child this year and hear about how you can support with your child’s learning and progress.

We wish all our children and families every success this year. Please do feel free to get in touch if there is anything we can do to help.

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)

You will have followed the news that some public buildings have been deemed unsafe because they contain RAAC, a specific type of concrete identified as having a short life span. It was sometimes used in the construction of, for example, roof and ceiling panels. Camden carried out an audit of Brookfield in Summer 2023 and reported these findings to the Department for Education. We can confirm that the response submitted to the DfE by specialist contractors identified no RAAC at Brookfield, and that we have not been identified as a school at risk.
