Laurel’s Update

Our week started with a special assembly from Brookfield Dad, Tyler Saunders. He was inspirational, and shared with the children his achievement of representing the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball team, playing internationally, and the challenges he has overcome. Please see pictures below

This morning, we have shared with the children who their teacher and learning support assistant will be next year (see table below). I hope it is beneficial for the children, and for you, to know this information as soon as possible. It means that we can now start a thorough handover process with plenty of time for children and staff to get to know each other and have a flying start in September.

Open Afternoon on 6th July will be an opportunity for children and parents to visit current and new classes and teachers. The school will be open between 3.30pm – 5pm. Children will also be meeting their new teachers in special lessons on 13th July.

This year, we have three teachers taking exciting roles in Camden. Charlotte will be helping schools develop their Early Years SEND support while Laura and Amy will become teachers at Robson House which includes the Primary Pupil Referral Unit. We thank these staff for their huge contributions to Brookfield and wish them every success as they prepare for their new roles. I am proud that our staff are progressing to specialist roles within Camden and demonstrates Brookfield’s inclusive practice. Please read a personal note below from Laura about SEND provision:

“I am writing to share some bittersweet news with you. At the end of this term, I will be leaving Brookfield to become a Class Teacher and Curriculum Lead at Robson House. Whilst I am excited for my new role, there will be an enormous Brookfield shaped hole in my life. I have so many fond memories throughout my 8 years at Brookfield and have so loved working with so many of you and your children. At Brookfield, we place great importance on our inclusive school environment and therefore, I am delighted to share that Lillie (current Ivy Year 4 teacher and Mental Health Lead) will be stepping into the role of Inclusion Manager SENDCo. She has a wealth of expertise in this area and cannot wait to start this new position in September. Lillie and I will be sharing a more detailed letter about this handover with parents whose children are on the SEND register on Monday.”

Please read this letter about the National teacher strikes taking place on the 5th and 7th July when school will be fully closed.

We have lots of inclusive Community events over the coming weeks, please copy the dates above into your diaries and calendars. We are keen to hear from more families who can help us make International Evening a success at 5pm on 13th July. Please email antiracism@brookfield.camden.sch.uk if you are able to contribute a dish, music or other performance.
