Laurel’s Update
Thank you to all the children, parents, carers and staff who made yesterday’s discos such a success. It was a wonderful evening of music, dancing and hopefully an event where everyone felt they belonged. We have lots of community events planned for the Summer term and we are keen to hear from our Muslim families about celebrating Eid as a school.
Please take some time over the Easter break to look at your child’s digital portfolio with them (years 1-6). We’ve included more detailed information about how to log in below. Use Google Chrome, log in with your child to their Google account and enjoy seeing all the fantastic learning they have engaged in this term. Let us know what you think!
If you use our After School Club, please take a moment to read about the change to how you can book in updates from the office section below.
Today we hosted a special assembly to say goodbye to Louise who has taught at Brookfield for seven years. This included a video created by the children, poetry reading and special song. We wish her every success in her new role.
Finally, can I wish you all wonderful Easter breaks and I am thinking of our Muslim families at this special time of Ramadan, our Jewish families preparing for Passover and our Christian families during Holy Week. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 17th April for the start of our Summer term with our focus on the value of achievement!

Year 3 Orienteering on the Heath
Do you know where the Stone of Free Speech is on the Heath? Well our Year 3s do now after orienteering this week! With map reading one of the key skills for Heather and Fern classes this term, both Year 3 groups headed to the heath this week to put their map reading knowledge into action. From finding a place where music is played, to climbing to the top of Parliament hill, all the groups did really well on the map challenge, and ended with some forest school games before heading back to school. Overall, it was a great chance to integrate our curriculum with outdoor learning, and make use of the wonderful resource of the heath.
Forest garden crowdfunder is live!
To donate towards the new forest garden area visit: https://gofund.me/fcc81626
After months of design with the children and wider school community, we have launched a crowdfunder for the new forest garden area this week! The new forest garden will be situated at the back of the junior playground and will be installed over the summer holidays with the excavation of the tarmac layer and replaced with lots of soil, plants and trees.
The forest garden area will host three key activities: Forest School and outdoor learning; natural play; and developing a food forest garden. This combination of uses in the roughly 25 metres x 12 metres space makes for a unique educational resource. The area will be used daily by the school for play time, lessons as part of the curriculum, and forest school and gardening sessions. We conservatively estimate that there will be around 11,000 unique student engagements with the new forest garden per year. The majority of planting and maintenance will be done with school classes and the wider community of parents and community volunteers at open days.
Please donate to the crowdfunding page if you can, and/ or share with your wider family/ friends and community.
Neurodiversity Week
The children have loved learning more about neurodiversity and the importance in respecting everyone. We had a special assembly with the help of some Year 5 and 6 children learning about dyslexia and then all made posters about the power of neurodiversity. Here are some of the amazing posters we have made.
