Laurel’s Update
We started the week with an inspirational visit from the Camden Mayor, Councillor Nasim Ali. He shared his story with us while reflecting on our three values of responsibility, achievement and kindness. Meeting our School Council, pictured, he helped the children to reflect on their contributions to the school.
Jo Cooke, Chair of Governors will be having two drop in sessions the first one will be held on Tuesday 17th January 2022 at 8.45am and Friday 20th January 2022 at 8.45am.
Read your child’s Curriculum Letter for this half term by clicking on the links in the Class News section. You can find out about what your child will be learning and how you can support at home.
Please sign up for a meeting with your child’s class teacher on Thursday 26th January, noting that Reception – year 6 will be finishing school from 1-1.15pm. We will relocate After School Club to Konstam for the afternoon and have refreshments and stalls in the bottom hall. Please contact the office if you know of a local community group that would like to attend.
Brookfield is looking for an inspirational Deputy Headteacher to start in September 2023 – please share this link far and wide to help us find a really strong field for this important position.

Year 5/6 football
From having no training and being thrown into the deep end with matches in the first week, to having more regular training during their lunchtimes and a lot of hard work, the two teams have shown huge progress and from the second week onwards they haven't looked back- hardly losing a game! Both teams are in good positions in the league and we are just awaiting other schools to finish their fixtures to see where we place.
Both teams are leading the way by a considerable amount on the fair play chart, which shows their spirit, togetherness and most importantly their respect for the opponents and referee.
Year 6 Imperial War Museum Trip
On Monday, Year Six went to the Imperial War Museum in Elephant and Castle. We learnt many things about our history topic: WW2. We learnt about many events of the war such as evacuation, rationing and the Nazis.
We really enjoyed using the interactive displays of the museum such as the machine which generated Morse code, and reconstructions of the houses which were made to look like they were from the times of the war.
There were many signposts to help navigate the time periods of the war and help us with the worksheets created by our teachers. Many parts of the exhibitions were linked to our learning in History and our year group thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Bramble Podcast
Last term Bramble created a podcast about Antarctica as part of our Geography and Computing learning. We were lucky enough to have Kate Taylor, who is a podcast creator and Brookfield parent, help us with this exciting project. Thanks to Kate, we were able to conduct a virtual interview with Dr Rutendo Shackleton (Conservationist, Scientist and Co-host of BBC Earth Podcast) to get her top tips on creating a science podcast. Here is the result! Hope you enjoy.

Year 6
We have noticed that lates are particularly high in year 6. Please note that Year 6 start school at 8.45am and we would like to ask for your support in ensuring that the children are ready and waiting in their lines at this time.
Arriving late means that they miss out on important learning. It can also impact their emotional wellbeing as it can leave children feeling unsettled at the start of the day.
Thank you for your continued support with this.

Message from the PTA Co-Chairs:
Both Sophie & Nicolai will have been PTA co-chairs for 2 years at the end end of this school year and so will both be stepping down from the role. It has been a fantastic and rewarding experience. We have both loved helping the school and children during this time.
The PTA is a team effort and we are looking for two new co-chairs to take over to continue the PTA’s mission of supporting and enriching your children’s education.
Please do consider coming forward to take over the roles, it is a great experience and essential for helping fund and run all the fun extra activities and events at the school.
Now is a good time to think about getting involved as we can pass on all our knowledge and help with the transition. Don’t worry we will still stay involved with the PTA and be around for any help or advice.
Email us at brookfieldschoolpta@gmail.com if you are interested or speak to us in the playground for more info.
Thank you,
Sophie & Nicolai
