Update from Laurel
My highlight of the week has been the triumphant and joyous year 6 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The children performed fantastically and thanks to the staff and parents who prepared and supported this event. We have also celebrated: Nursery and Reception Sports Days, children meeting their new class teachers and support staff, a year 1 trip to Kenwood House, year 4 swimming at the Lido, year 5 performing on their ukuleles and Open Afternoon. What a week!
I look forward to seeing you at tomorrow’s Brookfest and thanks in advance for the PTA’s efforts and creativity!
Summer Fair – BROOKFEST
The Summer Fair – Brookfest – is Saturday (tomorrow!) from 12-3pm. Come and watch the musical performances, enjoy some fantastic food, browse the books and toys, and much, much more.
We still need
- a few people to volunteer to set up and help clear up
- people to bring some homemade baked goodies for the tea and cake stall (no nuts)
- you to come – with card and cash (both accepted)

Year 6 Yearbook
Y6 parents are creating a wonderful yearbook for the soon-to-be-departing children, but we need donations to cover the printing costs and also the DISCO. Year 6 parents – please do donate >> here << (suggested £20 but please pay what you can).
Year 1 Carnival Assembly
Year 1 invite you to a celebratory carnival in the bottom hall on Wednesday 13th July at 2:30pm. The children will be sharing their carnival headdresses inspired by our core text Julian is a Mermaid. We encourage all Year 1 parents and carers to attend.
Best wishes,
Amy and Jo
Year 6 Performance
What a performance from Y6, they performed enthusiastically and with confidence. This was an excellent ‘Midsummers Night Dream’ play.

Architecture Lesson for Year 5
Last week, Year 5 were lucky enough to have Anne & Mike Schroell Tite come in and teach them a lesson on Architecture! They looked at the history or architecture, different architecture styles and got to design their own futuristic building! In DT this term, Year 5 will be making their own Greek temples from their learning on innovation and Ancient Greece. Thanks to Anne & Mike for teaching us such fundamental skills for our building sessions next week!

PSHE at Brookfield
Brookfield is an inclusive and diverse community, that champions and teaches equality in all aspects of life. We encourage curiosity and critical thinking. Our PSHE teaching adheres to the national PSHE and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curricula, and children are encouraged to ask questions and spark discussions based on lessons. In addition to this, Key Stage 2 classes are encouraged to watch Newsround in class to better understand current affairs and the world around them. This can often raise issues and questions about stories covered and teachers respond to children’s interests, which are taught in an age-appropriate way. We strive and hope for PSHE lessons to encourage children to interact more empathetically and inclusively with the world around them, as well as to celebrate diversity and difference.

Year 2 Seaside Trip
Last week, Year 2 visited Southend Seaside, as part of their Geography learning. We had the best time playing in the sea, building sandcastles, digging holes and eating ice cream. The sun wasn’t shining, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. It was a day to remember!

Maths Day
It was fantastic to celebrate inaugural Maths Day at Brookfield. The whole school took part in fun maths based activities, including creating a fantastic piece of artwork and having a go at some team based problem solving activities. It was great to end the day with Maths Art Gallery presented on the playground. A special mention goes to George and Josh from Ash class, who constructed the longest paper chain from 1 sheet of A4 in the school, and Willow class, who came top of the leaderboard in the Battle of the Bands on Times Tables Rock Stars.

Music News
The Year 5s performed so well on their ukuleles yesterday – the recordings of the songs will be posted on Google Classroom. Thank you to all the families for coming and supporting. An email will be sent out soon about how your child can continue playing next year.
A reminder that this Saturday, the Infant and Junior Choirs will be performing at the Brookfield Summer Fair. The Infant Choir will be performing at 1pm (meeting at 12.45pm) and the Junior Choir will be performing at 1.30pm (meeting at 1.15pm). You will need to stay with your child for the duration of the event.
The final Junior Choir get-together will be on Thursday 14th July after school. We will be having a little party. Refreshments will be provided, so no need to bring anything (apologies, this is a change from what the children were told).
Year 3 Fashion Show
In Year 3, we have been exploring David Walliams’ ‘Boy in a Dress’ and embracing difference and individuality. We created our own alter egos and put on a fashion show to show our inner selves! The children oozed confidence and flair. We particularly enjoyed their ‘end of catwalk’ poses and facial expressions. When in doubt, pout!
