We thank all these staff for their commitment, creativity and leadership and wish them well in their new locations and roles!
Reports and open afternoon
Your child’s annual school report will be sent to you via email over the next week. We hope you enjoy reading about the progress they have made this year. There is an opportunity to talk to your child’s teacher informally or formally at Open Afternoon on Thursday 7th July.
Next Thursday, school will be closing at 1pm (years 2 and 6), 1.05pm (years 1 and 5), 1.10pm (Reception and year 4) and 1.15pm (Catkin Nursery and year 3) for our in person open afternoon. Parents, carers and children are invited to come and visit their current classrooms, review work and talk informally to teachers before visiting new classrooms and teachers for next September between 1.30 – 2.45pm.
There will then be a limited number of appointments available for parents and carers to meet with existing teachers between 3-4.30pm please book to discuss your child’s report and consider special transition arrangements. Other appointment times are available if these fill up or are not convenient. Please email the usual year group address to arrange this. Please note, any appointments for Elm class will take place on a different day by arrangement as Louise is attending a professional development opportunity on Thursday.

Special Assemblies

Sincere thanks to Brookfield alumni: Elizabeth and Kacey who came and inspired our children in two special assemblies. They shared their achievements since leaving Brookfield which have included creating 100 care packs for local people in need, winning awards and even performing for the Queen!

We also had an internet safety assembly for all children in Key Stage 2 (years 3, 4, 5 and 6) today about how to be safe, confident explorers of the online world.

We had some fantastic visitors on Friday 1st of July. Be Internet Legends came in to perform an engaging assembly which demonstrated how we can all be internet LEGENDS! They taught us how to be sharp, alert, secure, kind and brave on the internet. We even cracked a code altogether during the assembly which the children found really fun. The pupils at Brookfield have all been encouraged to all be internet legends at home by exploring ‘Interland’ where they can play on games and find out new ways to be safe online.

Summer Fair – Brookfest, Saturday July 9th

The Summer Fair is almost here! It will be next Saturday July 9th, at the usual time of 12-3pm.

It’s time for a clear out again! If you have any unwanted toys and books please bring them to the office as close to Friday as possible. (Storage space is limited this year)

Don’t forget to get baking: we need your cakes, biscuits & savoury offerings. Either bring to the office on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning from 10am or just bring directly to the stall when you come to the fair. (Remember no nuts please)

You should have been contacted by your year reps about the stalls you will be running.

  • Nursery and Reception – Toys & Books
  • Year 1 – Bar and Pimms
  • Year 2 – Tea & Cakes and Popcorn
  • Year 3 – Arts & Crafts and Ice Cream/Tuck Shop
  • Year 4 – BBQ and Food
  • Year 5 – Raffle and Games
  • Year 6 – Pea Fair and Photobooth

We also really need people to help with set up on Friday 8th night from 4.30pm and Saturday 9th morning from 9 or 10am and also with clear up.

We are still looking for more of your brilliant musical or performance pieces. Kids or parents please get in touch, we would love to see all your fantastic acts.

Or get in touch if you have any other skills to offer.

There will also be the usual RAFFLE – look out to buy tickets in advance in the playground. There will be tickets available on the day of course as well.

Please email brookfieldschoolpta@gmail.com

A massive thank you to everyone who is or is planning to get involved. We really can’t do it without you!

Watch list

We now live in a world of online streaming and it has become difficult for parents and carers to monitor and regulate what their children watch and are exposed to. Here are some programmes that contain inappropriate content, that children might be accessing:  Sidemen (YouTube), Stranger Things (Netflix), Love Island (ITV)

Updates from the office

Health Update

Chicken Pox
We have had a number of cases of chicken pox throughout the school. Please read the attached letter which contains information about the signs and symptoms of the infection, and when your child(ren) can return to school after they have had chicken pox.

Chicken Pox Letter

Covid-19
There has been a significant increase in covid-19 infections nationally, and we have seen a number of cases here in school. Covid-19 continues to be a virus that we learn to live with and the imperative to reduce the disruption to children’s education remains. Children with mild symptoms of a respiratory infection (runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough), who are otherwise well, can continue to attend school or nursery. If your child tests positive for Covid-19, they should not attend school or nursery for 3 days after the day they took the test. After 3 days, if they feel well enough, and do not have a temperature they can return to school.

Arrears

As we are coming to the end of the school year please can you make sure that all your arrears have been cleared (Dinner money, after-school club and breakfast club)

Parent Governor Elections

You should have received your voting pack on Tuesday of this week. If you have more than one child at the school, only one of your children will have been given a pack. Please remember to hand in your voting envelope to the office (or hand in person to Rosie on the gates) by Friday 8th July. Please contact the office if you have not received a pack, or if you are a 2 household family, and another parent wishes to cast a vote.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Year 6 Production

‘If we shadows have offended, think on this and all is mended!’

Next week, Oak and Elm in year 6 will be performing, as their final primary school production, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, written by William Shakespeare and adapted by Louise. With a modern circus take on the original, Year 6 children, staff and parents have been tirelessly working to put this together and bring some magic, singing and dance to the stage!

The dress rehearsal will go ahead for KS2 children on Monday and the show itself will be performed for families of the children involved on Tuesday night at 6pm in the bottom hall. It will run for just over an hour. As space is limited and there is only one performance, each year 6 child’s family will unfortunately only be allocated 2 tickets each to come and see the show but please do keep in mind that siblings in KS2 will have seen the show on Monday. We don’t recommend that very young family members under school age attend due to the length of the show and space.  We aren’t charging for tickets but we would like to ask for donations on the door to help support our fabulous arts at Brookfield!

Have a look at our wonderful poster, designed by our very own Delilah in year 6! We are bringing ‘The Dream’ to life!

Year 1 Trip to Kenwood House

Next Wednesday (6th), Year 1 will be visiting Kenwood House to find out more about Dido Belle, who we are learning about in history. We will be leaving at around 10:45am and returning to school before the end of the day. We will be travelling on the 210 bus. Please ensure that your child has comfortable footwear, a backpack to carry their lunch, a water bottle and sun cream/sun hat if appropriate. We will need some parent volunteers in order for this trip to go ahead. If you are available, please email year1@brookfield.camden.sch.uk and we will get back to you at the start of next week. Thank you!

Eco-Committee Trip to the Superbloom

The Eco-Committee had a fantastic day at the Superbloom on Tuesday. They explored the Tower of London moat which has been planted with 20 million seeds for the Queen’s Jubilee. The children were very inspired by what they saw and have lots of tips for what to include in our gardens around school. They also got to slide down into the moat, which was very exciting! Thank you to Shakylah and Hector in Year 5 who took lots of beautiful photos of the flowers.

Conker trip to the British Museum

Conker class went to the British Museum last Friday for a Museum Maths workshop. We explored pattern and shape and we even had a look around the Ancient Egypt and Africa exhibitions! A huge thank you to all the adults who came to help on this trip. The children had a great day!

Missing Library Books

We hope Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children have been enjoying our new Little Wandle reading scheme books.  Please check at home for any books that may not have been returned.  We have been so lucky to have these lovely new book and use them to read in groups so it is really important we get them all back!

Please could everyone have a check for any school library books at home too.

Thank you from Abigail
