Laurel’s Update

Welcome to our final newsletter of the year! Thanks to the children, staff and families for making it such an inspiring experience.

Last Saturday, we came together as a community for Brookfest Summer Fair which was a wonderful celebration expertly organised and run by the PTA. This week, the children have achieved at sports days thanks to Haseeb and his team, presented year 1 and Fern class assemblies thanks to the brilliant Y1 and Y3 teams, and visited the Phoenix cinema to see the premiere screenings of their creative FAB films thanks to Emily and the FAB committee.

Further to the email sent on Wednesday, we are anticipating a heatwave in London from Sunday. A text will be sent at 8am on Monday and Tuesday mornings to confirm if school will close between 1-1.15pm. This early closure is to keep children and staff safe. It is in line with arrangements being made by other Camden and London schools. Please send children into school with high factor sun screen, sun hats and water bottles that can be refilled.

When the children return to school on Monday 5th September, we will be keeping our staggered start and finish times with children collected from the playgrounds by the class teachers each day. This arrangement was introduced during the pandemic, has helped the children start and end the days calmly and provided an opportunity for parents to have conversations with staff.

I wish all our Brookfield families joyous summer breaks, full of sunshine, laughter and good books! We will be welcoming you back on Monday 5th September and will look forward to hearing your news.

Summer Fair and message from the PTA

Thank you to everyone that helped out at and attended Brookfest – The Summer Fair. It was a fantastic community event which raised over £3500! Every pound raised goes to helping Brookfield children with art projects, trips, music and more, so thank you. (Any final expenses invoices, please email brookfieldptatreasurer@gmail.com – thanks.)

Thank you to all the reps, helpers, parents, carers, teachers, support staff, Derek, and Laurel for making it such a great fair.

Leavers’ Assembly – Year 6

Next Thursday we will be saying goodbye to our wonderful year 6 children in Oak and Elm classes. As part of their fantastic end of year events, there will be a Leavers’ Assembly held in the bottom hall on the last day of school, 21st July, at 10am. This will include sharing some golden memories, songs and gifts.

Each child will be allowed 2 guests to come and watch. However, should you have any special circumstances, please contact the office and we’ll see what we can do to accommodate.

Reminders from the office

As we are coming to the end of the year, please check your Nursery, Breakfast Club, After School Club and Dinner Money accounts and clear all monies in full by Thursday 21st July.

All named lost property will be returned to children, un-named items will be donated to charity over the summer break.

Attendance

We are currently creating a new attendance policy at Brookfield for 2022-23. We would like to involve parents, carers, staff and children to ensure that the policy is as clear, helpful and supportive as it can be.

Here is a link to a google form to ask a few questions about attendance that will help inform our policy:  https://forms.gle/zfpY9eyFPRiCdD5e8

Year 1 Carnival Parade

Year 1 celebrated a fantastic year with a carnival parade. Their headdresses were inspired by their work in science and literacy. They also sang a beautiful song accompanied by percussion instruments. It was a wonderful end to the year.

Year 6 West African Drumming Sharing Session

Next Wednesday (20th), there will be Sharing Sessions in the Music Room so that the Year 6s can show what they have been learning to play in their West African Drumming Lessons. Apologies for the short notice, and I know that it is a busy week, but you are very welcome to come along and watch if you are available.

Oak Class2pm

Elm Class3pm

And… the Y6 Disco

is on Saturday, 6:30-9pm at the Highgate Civic Centre on Croftdown Road.

Diversity Display

As you may know, I have been putting together a diversity display showing off the rich variety of cultures we have at Brookfield. Thank you to those parents who have sent me pictures of their child taking part in their culture (wearing traditional clothing, celebrating a religious holiday or eating traditional food), accompanied by a few sentences explaining the picture. Since it was Eid Al-Adha last weekend, I would like to request pictures of your child celebrating Eid.

Year 2 Sprinkler fun

This week, Year 2 were excited to have the chance to play in the sprinklers on the junior playground. They had fun running around in the water and soaking themselves! A cool relief from the hot weather.

Sports Day

We had another super turn out for our final sports day! KS1 children had a blast and it was equally enjoyed by the school staff and parents! A massive thank you to everyone who attended and made each event fun and enjoyable.

Have a lovely summer holiday and we will go again stronger and happier in September (“,

If you can’t wait that long to see me then book on to the summer club here at Brookfield! I will be here.
