Laurel’s Update

Eid Mubarak to all our Muslim families who were celebrating on Monday! This week has been full of highlights including our Reception Fantastic Arts at Brookfield film making day.

Next week our wonderful year 6 children will be completing the SAT tests. We are excited for them to have the opportunity to show all they have learnt at primary school. While these are national assessments that nearly all children complete, we do not want them to be a cause of any stress or worry. Year 6 children are invited to have breakfast in the library at 8.30am and enjoy a 10 minutes peace session each morning. I hope the children sleep well and wish them every success.

Staff arrivals and departures

I am pleased to introduce you to Simone, our new Communications Officer, and Rob our Forest School Gardener. They have made brilliant starts in these new positions at Brookfield. Please pop into the office to meet Simone and you can see Rob in the playgrounds on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

We have said farewells to Jerome (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) and Aaron (Fit for Sport). We were sorry to have a short time to say goodbye to Aaron, who has been a dedicated PE teacher and great role model for the children. We wish him well in his new career path and glad that some children still get to see him at his football club sessions.

Year 2 PAC maths

Year 2 look forward to welcoming parents and carers in the bottom hall at 9am for their PAC maths session. We will be showcasing some games and methods we have been learning in class. We look forward to seeing lots of you there!

Updates from the office

From the second half of the summer term, we will be making a small increase of £1 to After School Club bookings. This means the following price points will apply:

Single child until 4.30pm = £5

Single child until 6pm = £11

Sibling until 6pm (booked on same day) = £9

Pupil premium children can book 2 4.30pm sessions per week for free (or £6 if you wish to book until 6pm).

Any bookings made above and beyond the 2 free sessions will be charged at the usual rates above.

Opportunity at Channing Senior School

As you may know, Brookfield is benefitting from the partnership we have made with Channing senior school, and we have enjoyed some exciting, exclusive after school clubs with them so far.

This summer term, children in Years 5 and 6 have been invited to take part in a debating club at Channing Senior School. The club places a focus on public speaking and debating skills, culminating in debates about topics which the children feel passionate about. We have 6 places left, so please let me know if your child would like to attend by emailing me : l.ditchfield@brookfield.camden.sch.uk.
The club will take place every Thursday starting next week (Thursday 12th May) and will run from 4.05 until 4.45. Brookfield staff will walk the children to Channing, and they will then need to be collected by parents from the Senior School reception at 4.45pm (the black doors up the stairs – opposite Lauderdale House).

Parent School Lunch Taster session

All parents are invited to our Parent menu tasting session with Caterlink on Friday 20th May in the lower hall. A selection from the weekly menu will be on offer for parents to come in and sample. Caterlink Area Manager Lucia Bromley will be on hand to answer your questions, and this is your opportunity to feedback to us about our lunchtime offering. We look forward to seeing you there.

Brookfield Green Spaces: Survey and tool donations

As spring has come its the seed sowing time of year, and Brookfield children have been starting plants like courgette, borlotti beans, and leeks with new forest school gardener Rob. 400 packets of wildflower seeds were also distributed to pupils last week as part of the Camden Meadow project. To find out more and share photographs of your meadow if you sowed the seeds follow this link here. The design of green spaces at Brookfield is currently being reviewed with input from pupils and the wider school community. We’d love to hear your thoughts on what plants, flowers, green space activities can happen on school grounds. Fill in this Green Space surveyby Sunday 22nd May if you’d like to contribute. The survey includes a question on the design of a forest school garden in the playground. In the last couple of weeks we’ve done an inventory of garden equipment in the school, and are currently filling the gaps. If you have any unused garden tools or resources that you’d like to donate to school gardening activities please get in touch with Rob (r.logan@brookfield.camden.sch.uk).
