Laurel’s Update

What a joyous day of Jubilee celebrations we have had! The children have enjoyed special activities including games organised by a committee of year 6 children and a picnic lunch.

This afternoon I attended the launch of Highgate Newtown Community Partners where our collaboration with HNCP and Channing School were celebrated. We look forward to growing this partnership further for the mutual benefit of our children and the wider community.

We have wished Aniqa all the best as she embarks on her maternity leave today and have welcomed Asli as the Learning Support Assistant for Acorn class. We also say a fond farewell to Luul who has been a valued cleaner at Brookfield for over 6 years.

Have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing all children back on Monday 6th June. Please read on for photos of the year 3 trip to Regent’s Park and the inspiring year 4 show!

Parent Governor Vacancy

We have a vacancy for a parent governor at Brookfield. Please do read the attached letter, and complete the application form if you think this could be a role for you.

Year 4 The Romans

On Wednesday, Year 4 delivered an excellent performance of their show ‘The Romans’. The singing was amazing, the acting was superb, the violin and singing solos inspirational! The costumes, props and acting was the best! Thank you to all the parents that came along.

Year 3 Trip

Year 3 had a magical day at St John’s Lodge Gardens in Regent’s Park, where we pretended to be in Wonderland! Inspired by our English learning covering ‘Alice in Wonderland’, it was a fitting place to recite our versions of the ‘Jabberwocky’ and put our newfound sketching skills into practice.

Music News – looking ahead to next half term

In Year 3 we have been learning a song from Nigeria and making ourselves into a class band to accompany the song. If your child learns an instrument, and is able to play the notes, A & G, or C & B, or E & D, or chords Am and G (or G7), then they can bring their instrument in on the first Monday back (6th), to add to our class band. All the children will play instruments, some from home and some from the music room.

If your child is in Year 5 please encourage them to practise their ukulele over the holidays. Our focus pieces are: Sail us away, Swing Low/Oh when the saints, Merrily we roll along and Yellow Submarine.

New Vegan Menu

It was great to see so many of you at the parent taster session last week. Thank you for your ongoing feedback – it is helping us to shape the Brookfield lunch experience. Working alongside Caterlink, we are pleased to be sharing a new vegan menu with you (see below). If your child is vegan, please let the office know (you can pop in, email, or telephone us) and we will pass this information onto the kitchen.

We will be continuing to make improvements and try new things over the coming weeks, that we look forward to sharing with you.

PTA News

Thanks to everyone who came to the Jubilee Bake Sale – next time we need more cakes! We raised a fantastic total of

£371!

Summer Fair

Save the date for BrookFest – this year’s Summer Fair will be on Saturday July 9th, at the usual time of 12-3. We are planning two stages for music & performance, plus a new and improved offering of food, drink and fun activities for all. If you have DJ skills, want to help book some kids and parent bands, or have any other skills to offer, please email brookfieldschoolpta@gmail.com

Please also get in touch if you have other ideas or things you’d like to see at BrookFest.

Building a sense of community: your ideas

Tuesday 7th June @ The Star pub on Chester Road.
Come and meet other parents and discuss how we rebuild the sense of community around the school after Covid. Also how we raise money. All welcome, we hope at least 2 people per class will come along. The aim is to discuss ideas and then feed back via each class’s WhatsApp group.

We will have another meeting later in June in the evening at the school, so it’s not always in a pub.

Diversity Display

We are putting together a Diversity Display in school which will include a map of the world with arrows pointing to all the different countries our children come from. Please send in pictures of the children taking part in their culture. This could be a picture of children wearing traditional clothing from their culture, eating traditional food or visiting their home country, with a little bit of writing about the picture and what languages are spoken in their homes.

Year 2 trip

On 13th June, Year 2 will be going to the CLC to spend the day learning how to create stop motion animations. We would love for some Year 2 parents to join us on the day. Please email year2@brookfield.camden.sch.uk if you are able to accompany this trip.

The Infant and the Junior Choirs are going to be singing at the Camden Cluster Festival at Gospel Oak School on Monday 20th June in the morning. It is not a concert, so there will be no audience, but if you would like to help to accompany the children on the trip then please email me: j.reid@brookfield.camden.sch.uk

We will leave at about 9.15am and return to school at about midday.

Big Battery Hunt

Brookfield are taking part in this year’s Big Battery Hunt! We are encouraging all children to collect up any old batteries over the next few weeks and take them to your nearest battery recycling point. These are often found in supermarkets. If your child collects and recycles any batteries over the next few weeks, please let Amy know how many by emailing her: a.sprinks@brookfield.camden.sch.uk. Our school total will contribute towards the national count; so far half a million batteries have been recycled and counted in 2022. Any batteries counted before Friday 10th June will be part of our school’s entry into a prize draw. More information about the Big Battery Hunt, including activities to do at home over half term, is available on their website: https://www.bigbatteryhunt.co.uk/
