Laurels Update

The sun is shining as I write this update, it feels like Spring has sprung! This week we have enjoyed: National Science Week activities, our Reception children being inspired by a trip to Cecil Sharp House to see the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform, a bake sale to raise funds for Ukraine, a coffee morning for Year 6 parents and carers and Red Nose Day 2022!

Thank you to Heather class for their excellent assembly, with joyous singing, and to parents and carers who were able to support. We look forward to class assemblies from years 1, 5 and Fern class in the summer term and performances from years 4 and 6. It is a delight to be sharing our oracy outcomes with you all.

Next Thursday we will be coming together as a community for a disco to raise money for children and families affected by the invasion of Ukraine. Please note, there will be no After School Club next Thursday. Thanks to the PTA for their brilliant efforts to get this organised so swiftly, see the link below for tickets and I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!

We welcome visits to our wonderful, new Nursery for 2 year olds, Blossom Class, based at Konstam. We have a few spaces remaining for Easter and September starts. If you have a younger child, or know someone looking for a nursery space, please get in touch here

Today is Holi, Spring Festival, I wish all our Hindu families a vibrant and colourful year ahead!

Science Week Poster Competition

It is British Science Week! The theme this year is growth. On Monday, the children enjoyed assemblies introducing this theme and found out that the Eiffel Tower grows 15cm each summer – ask them why! British Science Week are running a poster competition on the theme of Growth. I have already received lots of fantastic entries. Please could any entries be returned to Amy by Thursday 31st March so they can be submitted before the Easter holidays. Five entries from each age group (3-5, 5-8, 8-11) will be submitted to the national competition and celebrated in school. Amy is looking for creativity and interesting science content! All the details, including the list of prizes, are available here: https://www.britishscienceweek.org/plan-your-activities/poster-competition

Science at Channing School

Some of our scientists in Year 4 have loved attending Channing School to carry out some incredible chemistry investigations in their laboratory. They have become more confident with using different equipment like bunsen burners to carry out different scientific tests. Well done Year 4!

Year 1 trip to Holly Village

Year 1 had a magical trip to the mysterious Neo Gothic Holly Village. We learnt all about the incredible Borness Angela Burdette Courts, the philanthropist whose country villa was situated on the Holly Lodge Estate in the 1800’s. The village is privately owned and it is rare for the public to be allowed in to see the 12 magical houses. A big thank you to Erica who invited us.
