Laurels Update
It was a pleasure to spend the morning focussing on our Early Years provision with our Camden Professional Partner. We visited classes, spoke to children and staff and looked at their outcomes. We were really impressed with the children’s independence, creativity and engagement. We welcome visits to our wonderful, new Nursery for 2 year olds, Blossom Class, based at Konstam. We have a few spaces remaining for Easter and September starts. If you have a younger child, or know someone looking for a nursery space, please get in touch here
We continue to hold up in our thoughts, all people impacted by the conflict in the Ukraine. Thank you to the school community for their enthusiasm in organising two events at Brookfield to fundraise for children and families in the Ukraine. More information below.
Heather Class Assembly
Dear Heather class Parent and Carers, please join us for a 15 minute class assembly on Thursday, 17th May at 2.30pm. Please arrive at school in good time, you will be able to take your child home straight after the assembly if you wish to. We look forward to seeing you then!
Office Updates
Please remember that we are a nut free school, and therefore no type of nut is permitted in lunchboxes, or as a snack. Nut allergies are not exclusive to peanuts, and could cause a serious allergic reaction to some of our children.
Fruit is provided for all children, free of charge and subsidised by the PTA, at morning break time. Your child(ren) can bring their own fruit and other snacks are not allowed.
We are so pleased to be welcoming parents and carers back into school. We do ask that when you arrive through the main office, that you are vigilant of tailgating – whilst we appreciate the kind gesture of holding the door open for someone, it is both a security and health and safety risk. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
Vacancies – we are currently recruiting for some part time posts at Brookfield – a Midday Meal Supervisor in our nursery, and an After School Club Supervisor. You can view and apply for these positions here
British Science Week
Today is the first day of British Science Week! This is a nationwide celebration of all things science and this year it’s running for 10 days from the 11th-20th March. The theme for 2022 is Growth. Next week, your children will be asked to enter an exciting poster competition based around this theme. More details will follow in next Friday’s newsletter! If you would like to run some fun science activities at home with your children, have a look at the pack developed by British Science Week. There is also plenty to read and do on the British Science Week website: https://www.britishscienceweek.org/
Reading Ambassadors
Thank you to all the children who have applied to be Reading Ambassadors. We were so impressed with how articulate the children were in letting their classes know why they wanted the role. The final list of our new ambassadors will be published next week and hopefully the first meeting will take place the week after.
Music Update
The Reception children are looking forward to their trip on Wednesday to see the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at Cecil Sharp House. In preparation for our trip, we have been learning about Music from Italy and singing songs about going on journeys.
The Junior Choir have been practising hard for the Camden Choir Festival on Monday 21st March and are sounding fantastic! Please return any outstanding forms to Julia or the office asap. The children can practise the songs on the following website: http://www.camdenmusic.org They need to know the words ‘off by heart’. The last choir reherasal of the term will be on Thursday 17th March.
The Infant Choir have been enjoying learning new songs ready for the Summer. This half term, we meet on a Monday at 2.00pm. There will be no choir on Monday 21st, due to the Junior Choir trip. We hope that all the children continue to be in the choir, but if your child no longer wants to be a member, please let me know via email: j.reid@brookfield.camden.sch.uk
Year 4 swimming lessons
Year 4 will be attending swimming lessons this half term at Archway Leisure Centre. Swimming lessons will take place over a two week period and the children will be swimming every afternoon for an hour.

Week 2 Mon 28th March – Friday 1st April
We are looking for parents or carers who are able to volunteer in walking children to and from Archway swimming pool. Please e-mail year4@brookfield.camden.sch.uk if you are able to help, even if it is just for one of the days.
Thank you for your support,
The Y4 team.
Y5 & 6 FAB Editing sessions
This week Year 5 & 6 had their long awaiting FAB editing sessions with Sparks! Using the school Chromebooks they learnt how to select, cut, edit, filter and transition footage. They had a go at adding sound effects and voice overs to their films. Thanks to the FAB Committee and PTA for their support of this project.

Year 4 Ivy Class
This week year 4 got very messy creating our very own digestive system. We used a sandwich bag to represent the stomach, popped in biscuits and orange juice and started churning away! We loved seeing the digestive system in action even though it might have put us off digestive biscuits for a while!

Ten Minutes Peace Parent Workshop
On Friday 1st April, at 9am, we are pleased to be holding a parent workshop which will introduce our wellbeing programme called ‘Ten Minutes Peace.’ Ten Minutes Peace is designed to enable children, teachers and parents to embed a wholesome yoga and breathing practice into their school life, home environment, and beyond. It is time and cost effective; and offers a chance to pause and re-group at any point in the day with a few simple techniques.
The session will last for 30 minutes and will be run by the founder of Ten Minutes Peace: Molly Hallam. It will be a chance to learn more about the sessions we hold in class and also a chance for you to try it out! Teachers and pupils have had various sessions with Molly and Ten Minutes Peace has become embedded into daily Brookfield Life.
If you are interested, please come along to the bottom hall on Friday 1st April at 9am. Coffee and tea will also be available!
