Laurels Update
Today, Brookfield School has been represented by 88 enthusiastic cross country runners at the annual competition on Hampstead Heath. The team did fantastically, coming 1st out of 18 Camden schools. This is an amazing achievement and thank you to the parents and carers who cheered the children on, and to Haseeb and Aaron for preparing and encouraging the children. Every child who tried in their PE lessons, attended extra training sessions and those who attended today showed such determination, resilience and passion and we are proud of each and every one of them.
Our week started wearing yellow for the Young Minds charity. Over £50 was raised on the gates and online donations can be made here https://www.youngminds.org.uk/support-us/donate/
I am looking for parents and carers who can come and talk to classes about their faith next Friday on our termly RE day (22nd October) and also those who have something to share on the value of responsibility. Please come and share your experiences with our children by emailing admin@brookfield.camden.sch.uk or talk to me on the gate!
Yours, Laurel
School Photos
On Monday 18th October, the school photographer will be in taking school photos for Nursery Catkin class, Reception classes, and Year 1 and 2. Most children in years 3-6 have had their school photos done already. Details of how to purchase your child’s photo, will be in next weeks newsletter.
Safeguarding Update
We are increasingly concerned at the number of children who have been talking about and re-enacting the games from ‘Squid Game’: a popular Netflix show that is highly inappropriate for young children due to the high levels of violence portrayed.
Please note that children are accessing scenes from Squid Games via places such as their TikTok accounts as it can pop up on their ‘For You’ page and therefore even if they are not searching for it, they can come across scenes which are disturbing.
Please do not assume they are unaware of it as if they have access to TikTok, Discord, Roblox, YouTube or Netflix, or have friends or relatives who have, they may well have come across it.
The Annual School Flu Vaccination for Children in Reception to Year 6
Today, there will be a letter and consent form sent home regarding flu vaccinations which will take place at school on Thursday 11th of November. All parents must complete and return the form indicating if they would like their child to receive the vaccine or not. This vaccination is recommended to help protect your child against flu. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and sometimes causes serious complications. Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable family and friends by preventing the spread of flu.
Please return the form to your child’s class teacher or the office.

Year 6 Global Citizens – Campaign for Refugees
As part of our new curriculum we aspire to ‘Beautiful Work’. Here’s an example of our beautiful work in Year 6 this term. This will also appear in the children’s Geography portfolios. Could we ask that any final donations are sent into school by the end of half term? Someone from care4calais will be coming in to help us sort everything. They, along with the refugees your donations will reach, are very grateful! What a great way to play our part in being kind Global Citizens!

Year 2’s Trip to the Heath
This week Year 2 went to Hampstead Heath to help us write descriptions in our literacy. We thought about what we could see, hear, smell and feel. We discovered colourful mushrooms, interesting fruits and some bendy trees!
Book of the Week
Do you dream of seeing your very own ‘Book of the Week’ right here in the Brookfield Newsletter? Please send your great recommendations to me and perhaps you’ll spread the word far and wide! Fiction or non fiction? All genres count! Say a little about the book, why you like it and who might like to read it! It needn’t be too long. A picture of the book cover would be good too but don’t worry if that’s too tricky.
