Laurel’s Update
This week we welcomed 30 mask wearing teaching students from the Institute of Education who spent the first of five days visiting Brookfield. After a presentation, they spent time watching our brilliant teachers and learning from their practice.
We have also enjoyed the school lunches provided by our kitchen staff, now managed by Caterlink. The children and staff are positive and one child told me ‘the lunches are really posh!’
Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to the maths workshop for years 1 and 2. Lucy was pleased to see so many of you and will add relevant resources to the school website. I look forward to seeing year 1 parents at a coffee morning at 9am on Friday. Please bring your questions and suggestions!
On Monday evening a tame, lone love bird flew into school and we have been caring for him while searching for his partner and home. The children have had lots of suggestions and we will enjoy his presence until he finds his original or a new home.
PTA AGM – change of date
The PTA AGM has been postponed to the 13th of October, due to an open evening clash. Please do come – it will be held on Zoom again, at 6:30pm, with link details nearer the time.

Music Update
It has been wonderful to hear some of the children having instrumental lessons at Brookfield this week and last. All the lessons have started now except for Max’s piano pupils who will be starting next week with a new teacher. Sign up for lessons here
In Year 1, we have been journeying around the world to learn songs – we travelled to Israel, DCR of Congo, Colombia and Trinidad. As part of our, ‘World Song Project’ it would be great to hear any songs you have to share. A form will be sent out soon to Year 1 families so we can gather songs.
In Year 3, we are going to be designing and making our own instruments, so if your child is in Year 3, please could you collect junk (e.g. clean yogurt pots, plastic containers, boxes etc.) to bring in by Monday 4th October.
Watch this space for more information about the Junior Choir, which we hope to start next half term.

Digital art in Year 2
This week Year 2 have been making our drawings come to life! We created our own ‘dot’ art and then used the app ‘Quiver’ on the iPads to make our dots jump off the page. We could even roll them around the classroom. Next week we will be exploring a different form of digital art and focusing on how different colours show different moods.
Year 1 Outing
Year 1 are visiting Waterlow Park on Wednesday 29th September at 1.30pm. We would love parents to accompany us on our first Year 1 trip. Please email us to let us know if you’d be able to come.
Thank you
Jo & Amy
PTA News
New Co-Chair needed – STILL NEEDED
The wonderful Sophie Wong has stepped up to be chair, but she desperately needs a co-pilot. Please do consider. All the boring stuff with banking is done by Rob, who’s going nowhere. Lulu and Rahma are stepping or stepped down, and did a fantastic job for the last few years – running a PTA in a pandemic is not easy… but now is the time for someone new. Go on… speaking of which:
New Reps / Continuing Reps – STILL NEEDED
Please let us know if you are stepping forward as a new Rep for your class. Email us at BrookfieldSchoolPTA@gmail.com
If you are considering being a Rep, here’s a few of the duties – it’s not too much:
- organise class/year socials – perhaps a picnic or parents pub night out
- collections for teachers presents – usually something at Xmas and end of school year
- attend the AGM – see below
- help organise a stall for Winter/Summer fairs.
- set up / maintain the class WhatsApp group or email list – for Reception this is important
That’s basically it.
We will continue to contact last years Reps until we are told who the new ones are, otherwise comms will get lost.
AGM
The annual meeting will be on Zoom at 6:30pm on Wed Oct 13th. Please do attend. We need to be quorate to get things passed. Zoom details nearer the time. We had to change the date as it clashes with the rearranged Parliament Hill Open Evening.
Any items for the agenda, please email brookfieldptatreasurer@gmail.com.
The agenda will include the yearly accounts for the PTA, spending plans, and updates on events.
Fancy Dress / Costume swap
With Halloween coming up, it’s time to dust off those costumes. However, what if your kids have outgrown their delightful pumpkin outfits? Or fancy something different? Before you start ordering, Brookfield will be running a costume swap session. No cash, just drop and browse / collect. Donations welcome, but no pressure. You might even spot something for World Book Day (thinking ahead to March!). DATE TO BE CONFIRMED but get rummaging.
Event ideas
What do you want to see the PTA organise this year? Let us know – it’s your PTA so do pitch in any ideas you have:
BrookfieldSchoolPTA@gmail.com
lastly
Raise money for Brookfield while shopping on Amazon
If you are going to use Amazon, make it pay! Go to smile.amazon.co.uk and select Brookfield Primary as your chosen charity. The money then rolls in… well, at least a little bit. It all helps.
That’s it for now. Keep well. And tell us who the new Reps are.
