Laurel’s Update

Happy Red Nose Day! Thanks to generous donations on the gates – Brookfield have raised over £100 towards the charity’s efforts. This includes Betty, Leila and Winnie in year 5 who collaborated to sell art work to raise more than £20!

The children have really settled this week and we have all enjoyed getting back to familiar routines. Highlights of this week have included children engaging in Crick Institute Science workshops and computing lessons with the Camden Learning Centre.

I have pleasure in sharing with you our full Challenge Partners review which describes Brookfield as ‘truly inclusive’. Praise was given for our new Brookfield Curriculum: ‘The curriculum has been extremely carefully thought out.’ It provides us with lots to celebrate and also some exciting suggestions to develop our communication and leadership further.

Spring Parent and Carer Workshops

Thanks you to Y5 and 6 parents who attended the virtual coffee morning on Thursday. Here are the slides I shared and the feedback discussed. Next Thursday at 11am, Lucy will be leading a workshop focussing on fun ideas to support your child with maths. We hope lots of you can attend!

Workshops for the Summer term

As we plan workshops for parents for the summer term, please let us know what you would find most helpful by sending an email to: admin@brookfield.camden.sch.uk

Spring parent/carer/teacher meetings

The Spring parent/carer/teacher meetings will take place on Thursday 29th April with school closing between 1-1.15pm. More details to follow.

After School Club

Due to staff absence, we are only able to open after school provision to our children who have a critical worker parent or are vulnerable until further notice. If your family are desperate for this provision until either 4.30 or 6pm, please email admin@brookfield.camden.sch.uk and we will do our best to accommodate places for families in greatest need.

We welcome donations of toys, games and Duplo in good condition for our children to play with at Breakfast and After School Club. Please leave donations at the gates at drop off or outside the school office.

Science week

(From Carla, our science lead)

Last week, Brookfield children became innovators as part of National Science week! The theme of the week was ‘Innovation for the future’. Every year group decided upon a sustainable development goal that they felt passionate about and discussed, mind-mapped, collaborated, and created their inventions and 3-D models to help solve that issue to help improve the future of ourselves and future generations.

The buzz of science around the school was so infectious and I felt very proud, as the science lead, of all the creative and thoughtful ideas the children came up with!

Next week the school is in for some more science fun, as the Francis Crick Institute will be coming in to run workshops for years 1-6. The workshops involve age-appropriate activities for each Year group, linked to one or more key skills/type of investigation in working scientifically. These include: Year 1 workshop “What’s in the Bag”; Year 5 workshop “electronics” and Year 6 workshop “Lasers” to name a few!
