This week we have really missed our year 5 children and staff and can’t wait to have them back on Monday. On Wednesday we invited a Camden Senior Adviser for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to complete a review of our school. She described our children and staff as ‘amazing’ and we look forward to her full report and recommendations.
Today is Forest School Day! Our year 6 children have really enjoyed their sessions on Hampstead Heath this week. The children learnt all about horse chestnut trees and how to make holes in their conkers. They created necklaces, bracelets, creatures and also learnt how to play the game ‘conkers’. It was lovely having Paula back and a special thank you to our parent volunteers! Here is a special video , created by the Forest School team, to celebrate this special day. It is with sadness that we had said farewell to Pete, one of our Forest School Leaders. He has been offered a full time Forest School opportunity and we wish him every success in this new role.
On Monday 19th October we have a school INSET day where staff will be developing their understanding of trauma informed practice and working in school improvement committees. Following the success of the summer holiday provision are partnering with Fit for Sport to offer holiday camps on our INSET days and during the school holidays. You can book here and please read on for further information about this provision.
At Brookfield, we aim to inspire the best in everyone through our values of kindness, responsibility and achievement. During these unusual times, it is even more important to remember to be kind to ourselves and each other. Thanks for the fruit PTA!
Here are some glorious pictures of our KS2 children enjoying the free fruit that our generous Parent Teacher Association have donated towards. Alec in Y6 commented ‘I’m really glad that the fruit is free now because we can all have some.’
Camden Schools Safety & Awareness
This letter is from the Metropolitan Police regarding an incident at a local Camden Secondary school this week.
Headlice
We have had messages from some parents suggesting there may be cases of head lice in year 6. Please can all parents read the attached letter and remember to send children to school with their hair tied back to help prevent transmission.
Food Bank Collection
Every Thursday parents can bring donations at morning drop off (not at pick up) for the food bank run by Highgate Newtown Community Centre. We will be collecting tins, pasta and other non-perishable items at each school gate to help isolating families and those with food worries.

PTA News
Support your school with a mask

You need a mask that’s a bit more interesting than those light blue medical things. You also want to show your support for Brookfield. If only there was some way…
Well now there is! You can buy an “I love Brookfield” mask – a bargain at £5. We have sold out of our initial order and are getting more soon.
BUY YOUR MASK HERE (and we’ll deliver to you). (Also – we should all be wearing them at the school gates. )
Pumpkins – Buy, Carve, Win

The PTA will be selling pumpkins for Hallowe’en from Wednesday 21st Oct. Get your pumpkin from school, and enter our photo competition. Carve your pumpkin, take a photo and send it to the PTA email. The best entries will be on the school website, Instagram account and we’ll try to drum up a prize for the winner.
Kids Quiz
We will be running three Zoom quizzes for kids in November. We are going to do it in three groups – KS1 (reception to y2); Years 3&4; and Years 5&6. (Obviously with siblings etc this is not formal, just an idea of where we are pitching it.).
Our plan is to do it on the afternoons of 12th and 13th November. Stay tuned for more details. No prizes, just a bit of fun and hopefully no tears, unlike in the adult quiz.
Raise money while doing the shopping online

Did you know you can raise money for Brookfield while shopping online? It costs you LITERALLY nothing. All you need to do is add the easyFundraising plug in on your browser and it automatically does the rest.
Find out how to do it here. Sainsbury’s, Amazon, eBay, John Lewis – you can raise money any time you make a purchase.
If we all did it, we could massively change the PTA’s fundraising. So far we have 134 people signed up (7 new in the past week – thank you to those seven as well as the other recent sign-ups), so if we could get to 200 that would be fantastic.
