We have enjoyed our first full week back at Brookfield and welcomed new children to our Nursery and Reception classes. It is a delight to have the school fully open, with classrooms and playgrounds buzzing with happy voices.

Thank you to the PTA for generously subsidising free fruit for all our junior children at morning break time. No longer will parents and carers need to find 20p coins each morning! Our early years and infant children receive free fruit from the government and it is great that the junior children can now benefit from this too. If you would prefer, your child can bring in their own fruit or healthy snack, please click here for options.

Please can I remind parents and carers of the need to maintain social distancing outside the school, wearing masks and only one parent per family. If distanced lines can be maintained it keeps adults safe and enables other members of the public to pass on the pavements. Thank you for being on time to drop off and collect your child(ren) as this helps our staggered start and finish times run smoothly.

In this newsletter you will find curriculum letters for years 1, 3, 4 and 6 (2 and 5 to follow on Monday). Please take the time to read these letters and then attend your year group Curriculum Meeting via Zoom.

Attendance and Punctuality

We have had another great week for attendance! We have nearly every child back in school.  Thank you to everyone for being punctual with start and finish times. To help us reduce contact between year groups, please queue outside the school gates on the 2m markers or across the road when collecting siblings.

Year 6

If you would like your child to walk home independently, please let Carole or their class teacher know.

In case you missed them: please find the year 6 forest school letters and further letter to year 6 parents that were sent home this week.

We are pleased to be able to run both breakfast and after school clubs keeping children in year group bubbles. We have been able to offer a limited number of clubs and we have updated the booking form reflecting all changes.

Football and ball sports will now have girls and boys playing together. Although two year groups will have clubs running on the same day, the clubs will all run within the established year group bubbles that are maintained during the normal school day.

Tuesday – Ball sports for boys and girls

Year 5 & 6 clubs this half term

We are very sorry to those who have already booked with different expectations however we’re constantly working to bring back clubs for as many children as possible and will update you when any changes are made. Our after school club is always available in the lower hall where children can play within their year groups.

If you do need to make any cancellations due to the changes please email Callum otherwise please fill out the new booking form if there are any bookings.

If you are new to the school or haven’t used Scopay before then please contact the office as you need a school code to sign in on Scopay and we can provide this (This is just needed for the first time signing up).

You can then click here to see guidance for registering your account and making payments.

Dinner Money

The total cost for dinner money is £86.40 for this half term – please contact the office as you need a school code to sign in on Scopay  (this is just needed for the first time signing up).

Please can you check your accounts as there may be money still owing from last year which needs clearing asap.

Thank you

Thank you to the parents for being so respectful of the changes that we have put in place for the safety of the office. We appreciate that there are a lot of changes for everyone to get used to but everyone has been great adhering to the latest guidelines.

Meet The Parents

A reminder that we are holding our annual Meet the Parents event at school on Thursday October 1st from 6.30 to 7.30pm.  Families from the local state secondaries will be here to answer frankly any questions about their schools for parents thinking about where to send their children from Year 7. Parents from all our year groups are welcome.

Because of social distancing requirements, please register through Eventbrite if you would like to come to this extremely useful event which is unique to Camden.

PTA News

The AGM was held via Zoom yesterday (Thursday 10th Sept) and thank you to all who attended. Full minutes will be put on the website in due course, but the main agreements are:

  • The committee (Lulu, Rahma, Rob, Genevieve) were reappointed for another year.
  • The financial statement for the year 2018-19 was approved and the appointment of independent auditors was agreed.
  • The spending plans for 2020-21 were approved, subject to change due to coronavirus restrictions (eg trips).

There were also lots of great ideas for fundraising and community events, so thank you for those too. All ideas are so very welcome at the moment. We are working out a programme for this term and beyond.

The PTA is usually funded by events that are both financially viable and also are great for community spirit and inclusivity. However, the current Covid-19 restrictions make some events impossible. For example, we normally have a Summer Fair which raises around £5,000 – but that couldn’t happen this year. So we are looking at ways of separating the two aims: making events less dependent on money, and focussing on the community; and finding ways of funding that aren’t dependent on events. More to come on this over the term ahead. As ever, we welcome your feedback and ideas – email or speak to us at the gates.

Ash class walk

Saturday, 3pm, meet at the petanque pitch on the Heath.

Ash class (year 5) are having a (socially distanced) walk on Saturday afternoon. If you are in Ash, please do join, but we are aware that rules on gatherings are being tightened, so please maintain a 2m distance. Bring your own water bottles. Details on the map below:

Calling Reps

The following classes still need class reps – please do get in touch, it’s not that tricky and the community upside is huge… email or grab us at the gates as usual.

Reception – Conker
Y1 – Daisy
Y1 – Bluebell
4 – Ivy
6 – Oak

That’s all for now – you stay classy Brookfield.
