Newsletter 24th April

Thank you for working so hard to adjust to new ways of living and learning. We hope you were able to enjoy Earth Day and watch the amazing Brookfield children in this special assembly:

Before Easter, we successfully trialled Google Classroom with Ivy class and it has been exciting to see this teaching and learning approach roll out across the school. We are evaluating how we are meeting the needs of all our children on a daily basis. In next week’s newsletter I will be asking you to provide feedback on home learning by responding to simple questions on the school website: what is working, what are the challenges and your recommendations?

Parents have always been children’s primary educators. You know your children best and you continue to make informed choices about how to support their health and learning. The home learning that we are providing is a suggestion. We have given more structure this term, which we hope will be helpful for most children and families. Feel free to use this flexibly. If you can keep your children content during this season they will be in a strong position to return to school and make great progress. If they are reading, writing regularly, solving problems and remaining curious-well done!

We appreciate that in this period of adjustment, some of you are experiencing some technical difficulties with using Google Classroom. We ask that you:

  • Watch Lauren’s Google Classroom tutorial video posted on the website
  • Read everything that the teacher has posted onto Google Classroom carefully. Your questions may be answered by looking at the material that has been uploaded in ‘classwork’, and by looking at the posts the teacher has made in the ‘stream’ section
  • Understandably, teachers have been receiving emails from parents asking questions about the technical difficulties they are experiencing. Please do hold in mind that our staff are adjusting too, and they themselves might not know the answers to your questions. Try and trouble shoot at home, using the guidance we have provided. If you do need additional support, then contact Dave our ICT technician at d.bodger@brookfield.camden.sch.uk , who will try his best to support you by email or phone.

If you have any complaints or recommendations about home learning, please direct these to me and not class teacher. Teachers are following school guidelines and are doing their very best.

Yours, Laurel

Reception School Place Offers

If you applied for a reception school place for September 2020 you will have received your offer over the Easter break via email. You now need to accept or decline this offer online via the eadmissions website https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/eAdmissions/app.

It is important that you confirm as soon as possible whether or not you wish to accept the school place you have been offered; you have until the 30 April 2020. Failure to do so may result in this offer being withdrawn. Due to the current uncertainty of when schools will reopen fully we will be thinking creatively about inducting new children and families to Brookfield during the Summer term. If you have any queries regarding the outcome of your application or wish to know about the appeals process, please contact the Camden school admissions team on 020 7974 1625.

Science Lessons With Carla

The small number of children who have been coming into school have been enjoying science lessons with Carla and painting rainbows created by our woodwork teacher, Ricky. Thank you to the staff who have volunteered to come into school to teach the children who are present. Thank you also to all the staff working at home
