Changes to drop offs and pickups at Brookfield from Friday 24th January
Dear parents and carers,
I am writing to let you know about an improvement to school safety that will change the way you drop off and collect your child(ren).
Why do we need to change anything? What’s not working?
At present children and parents arrive at Brookfield and depart using three different gates. Despite our efforts to always staff all three gates, there are too often times when the member of staff is called away, or is engaging with a parent, and security can be compromised.
What’s the change?
To improve Brookfield children’s safety and security from Friday 24th January, all children will enter and exit school through the infant gates on Croftdown Road. Our Site Service Officer, Derek, will be present as security and staff on the leadership team will welcome children and families.
How will it work?
In the mornings (drop offs):
Nursery, reception, year 1 and year 2 children will enter the building as usual. Children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (all our Juniors) will walk in through the infant gates and then go to the door at the hall end of the playground where they will be greeted by Faye, assistant head. They will then go in through that far door, up the stairs and walk to their classrooms.
In the afternoons (pick ups):
The infant gate will be opened at 3.25pm. At this time nursery, reception, year 1 and year 2 children will be available to be collected from their classrooms or the playground in the usual places.
At 3.30pm, the children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be bought to the infant playground by their teachers and they can then be collected at the back of the playground.
Benefits of the change:
As well as improving security I hope there will be further benefits to the school community: all being together in one place and parents no longer needing to hurry from one playground to another to collect siblings in different year groups. It should also benefit the PTA when there are after-school events such as bake sales and when tickets are being sold.
I appreciate that there will be many more families in one playground at the end of the day. We will all need to work together, be patient and willing to make this change work.
This is a trial that will reviewed at the end of the term
I have worked with staff and governors to carefully consider these improvements. We believe that this provides better safety and monitoring for our children however it is a change for a lot of people and we want to monitor it closely.
If you have concerns or comments:
I welcome your feedback before this starts, and once we begin, so that we have the best solution to safely and warmly welcome children and families and say goodbye at the end of the day. Please talk to me on the gate, email me at admin@brookfield.camden.sch.uk or make an appointment through the office.
