School News
Shanah tovah to all our families who celebrated Rosh Hashanah this week. Thank you to all the organisers, volunteers and families who attended the barn dance last Friday. Here are come photos and it was great to receive the following feedback: “We had a really good time at the Barn dance, it was great to enjoy a Mariachi band making the party, seeing a Mexican folk dancer and eating quesadillas with salsa! Our children enjoyed wearing their clothes from Oaxaca and sharing a taste of Mexico with their friends at Brookfield.” Carlos & Ritu
Junk Orchestra
This week saw the launch of our Fantastic Arts at Brookfield project for the year. The children will be making their own instruments out of recycled materials and creating compositions. This project will also support the children in their science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM) development.
Brookfield’s new vision and values
This term, children, staff, parents and governors are co-creating a new set of vision and values for the school. We would love to gather parental feedback on the ‘Brookfield legacy’ – what qualities and experiences should our children leaving Y6 have during their time at Brookfield? Please attend one of the following sessions to share your views and hear about the school priorities for the coming year. If you are unable to attend, please send your ideas to admin@brookfield.camden.sch.uk:
Wednesday 16th October 5pm or Friday 18th October 9am
After School Clubs News
Please note that there will be no debating club for the next two weeks as the Highgate teacher is on holiday. Debating will reconvene after half term. Please let the office know whether you would like your child to attend the playcentre instead on these days. Thank you
Playground Champions
We are going to train a group of children from Y6 to become our new playground champions at Brookfield. The role of the playground champions will be to help other children solve their problems and resolve conflicts at playtime as well as help everyone to feel included. The playground champions will learn the skills of conflict resolution and develop their oracy and leadership skills. This will be a very important role in the school community.
If you would like to be a playground champion then please write a letter explaining why you think you would be suitable for the position, what skills you have and what you would like to learn or develop. The deadline for applications in Tuesday 8th October.
Good Luck, I look forward to reading your letters,
Stephanie – Deputy Head
Occupational Therapy Workshop for Parents
This Thursday, 10th October, at 9am in the bottom hall, Shaaron Powell will hold a workshop for parents on Adaptive Daily Living Skills. Come along to the workshop to learn strategies to support your child in completing meaningful daily activities, such as self-care including dressing, teeth brushing, bathing and grooming. The strategies will support your child in completing morning and bedtime routines and can be applied to many activities.
Sports News
Cross country – We would like to say a MASSIVE well done to all children who took part in the cross country competition on Friday. Brookfield managed to come 3rd place out of 27 other schools, with a total of over 1,700 children taking part, which is an extraordinary achievement. A special thanks also goes out to all the parents and carers who helped out throughout the day, whether it was walking the children down, supporting them as they ran or helping out with the pinning of their numbers. Well done Brookfield!
Benchball – Next week Wednesday 9th October, there will be a ‘Mixed benchball’ competition for year 4’s at Talacre sports centre in Kentish Town. This event will take place from 4-6pm. Further information will go out in a letter to the children that are taking part next week.
News from the Office
This half terms school lunches are £79.20.
FAB Books will be being ordered in the next few weeks! Thanks for your patience.

We have children and adults with severe allergies to nuts, for this reason we are a ‘nut free’ school. Please be mindful of this when providing children with packed lunches and snacks for school. Thank you for your cooperation.
Community Events
A huge thank you to everyone who came to the Barn Dance and made it such a fun event.
A special thanks to all the stall helpers – too many to list, you know who you are. And especially to Tabs and Anna (Doyle and Longmuir, also an 80s cop show) who organised it so well.
From Anna and Tabitha:
A big thank you to everyone that helped at the Barn Dance, we pulled it off in record time and we couldn’t have done it without you. We also raised around £2,000 for the school, a record for this event.
A special thank you to: our dedicated PTA chairs Lulu & Rob, Freddy for slaving over the hot BBQ all night, Lisa & Anthony for being there and clearing up until the bitter end, Sharon & the team for decorations, Valeria for the posters, Gen for never saying no to our requests for help, Ben for generously loaning the gazebos, everyone who cooked and donated food on the night and Derek and his boys for going above and beyond!!!
Tabitha & Anna
PTA class reps and parents meetings
We’ve arranged two: at 9am on Thursday (10th Oct) in the school library, and the same evening in the Dartmouth Arms. All welcome (especially reps).
This is to discuss upcoming events, new ideas and anything else on your mind. It’s also to get to know a few more parents and carers, and to find out what the PTA does if you’d like to know more.
