School News

It was a pleasure to take prospective parents on a tour of the school on Wednesday. Throughout the week I have enjoyed seeing how well our new children have settled in Nursery and Reception. The EYFS also enjoyed apple pressing on Thursday with Transition Town. Year 1 have been writing invitations to parents while Year 2 continue to flourish at Forest School and Woodwork. Year 3 have been enthusiastically learning addition in maths and year 4 have been writing independently with excellent results. It has been great to see year 5 taking the challenge with their times tables and learning new vocabulary in science. Year 6 teachers are loving teaching their specialist subject to each class and the children are reaping the benefits of this too.

Two New Parent Governors Needed

I am writing to let you know that we need two new parent governors for Brookfield. I would like to invite anyone who is interested to stand for election as a parent governor, or to nominate another parent to do so. In our school we have provision for four parent governors and there are currently two vacancies. Please click here for additional information.

Brookfield has been awarded the TfL Stars silver accreditation! This is great news and shows the school’s commitment to safer, cleaner and greener transport choices. This year, we will be going for gold so please do bear in mind air quality, safety and the wider environment when choosing your travel choices to school – and beyond!

Meet the Parents

Want to know more about your local secondary schools? Our annual Meet the Parents event will be on Monday September 23rd from 6.30  to 7.30pm. Families from the local secondaries will be here to give you the most up-to-date information about their school experience. Parents from all year groups are welcome at this invaluable event.

Sports News

Cross country – Next Friday 27th September is this years’ cross country competition. We will be leaving school around 10:15am as the competition will start at 11:00am. Parents are encouraged to come along to watch and support! Also if some could help with the walk, that would be much appreciated. Years 3&4 will be back at school for lunch time, whilst years 5&6 will stay until 3pm.

Mixed dodgeball competition – Next week Wednesday year 4 will be taking part in a mixed dodgeball tournament at Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish town between 4-6pm. If any parents could help with the journey there, that would be much appreciated. We will be leaving school at 3.30pm. Letters have gone out already, so can all permission slips be in by Monday if not already.

Swimming – Year 4 can look forward to a whole year of swimming starting on Monday 23rd September.  If any parents can help with the walk there and back, that would be amazing:

4 Ivy will leave school at 1:30pm and will return to school at 3:10

4 Bramble will leave school at 2:00pm and will return back to school at 3:30

Barn Dance

Yes, it’s happening. The Barn Dance is a wonderful event and is next week: Friday 27th, at school. The poster below gives you an idea: music, food, the bucking bronco and more!

Here’s how tickets work. We are selling them online for the first time. It’s a new system so do forgive us if there are any glitches, but so far so good. Volunteers should have received an early booking link. For everyone else, more tickets will be available next week, so please be patient. We will notify when the next batch are on sale. Pupil Premium parents will have received details of a special coupon code to receive a discount. Like the tickets, that coupon is limited.

Payment is via PayPal only, and you will receive your tickets as an email. Make sure you receive the email (check spam folders etc if you haven’t seen it); if not, let the PTA know and we can reissue. Each ticket gets a QR code (that black and white box barcode thing) which we will use to scan you in on the evening of the barn dance. That means you can forward the email to someone else, but the QR code will only let you in once.

Thank you, and here’s to a great event.

Other dates

We have a provisional list of dates for other events which we will put up ASAP. Stay tuned. The Winter Fair looks like it’s Dec 7th so pencil that in now.
