School News

Thank you to all the children, parents, carers and staff who supported our international evening. As the pictures show, we spent an evening together sharing food, music, dance, tears and joy! Thanks to Louise who did a wonderful job of arranging and hosting the whole event. Congratulations to the orchestra and choirs who performed at international evening and the Camden cluster festival this week. We hosted our first stay and play, coffee morning: Brookfield Busy Bees on Thursday. It was great to see Brookfield and other parents and carers enjoying the space and new play equipment.

Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award!

We are delighted to announce that Unicef has awarded Brookfield the Silver Award for Rights Respecting Schools! This is fantastic news and is a credit to the children, staff and wider school community for their dedication to the UNCRC. Now, let’s go for gold!

Lifting Limits parents and carers survey:

As you may be aware, Brookfield has been working with ‘Lifting Limits’ this year as part of a pilot scheme to promote gender equality. We are asking parents and carers to complete a survey to find out how you feel the pilot has gone. This should take around 5 minutes.

Parents and carer counselling service

This is a free counselling service available to parents and carers who have a child in a Camden school.

The service provides twelve sessions of 1-1 counselling, which take place weekly in school hours during term time. Counselling sessions last fifty minutes. What’s said in sessions is confidential unless a child or another person is at risk of harm. Counselling sessions provide an opportunity for parents to talk about problems, decisions, worries or changes in any area of their life. Problems do not have to be related to parenting. Parents and carers who have used the service say that counselling has helped them untangle their thoughts and feelings, draw on their strengths and develop new perspectives. They have felt more able to cope and face the future as a result. Find out more.

Sports News

This week Shea (4E) had the amazing experience of meeting the Yankee baseball team. Here is a picture of him with one of his heroes. Well done Shea!

Today, a selection of Y3/4’s competed in the CSSA Quad Kids Athletics competition at Parliament Hill running track.

Clubs News

Please make sure you’re up to date with clubs fees. Payment can be made in cash or cheque only. Please hand an envelope into the office. Thanks

Angling Session

After a very successful taster session last week, the Hampstead and Highgate Angling society have been back in touch to offer us another session! The venue will be the model boating pond in Millfield Lane, N6, on the west side of Hampstead Heath from 3.45pm on Tuesday 9th July. Please email Sophie if you and your child would like to attend.

The kit (rods, etc) and bait will be supplied, and a team of coaches (professional as well as experts) will provide tuition in how to catch fish, handle them and carefully return them to the water.

An opportunity to engage with nature, as an alternative to the inundation of digital “entertainment”. Mindfulness is the current buzzword, taking in the calmness of being by the water and the innocent joy of fishing.

Hampstead and Highgate Angling Society is a credited partner of Hampstead Heath and represented in the new Hampstead Heath diary.

News from the office

This half term’s lunches are £86.40.

This year, please bring your donations to the Reception classrooms (just near the bottom hall), rather than the office.

Also, raffle prizes. Need we say more?

*** YEAR 6 YEARBOOK ***

We are doing well with the year 6 YEARBOOK. However, we are still on the hunt for photos – especially from the early ears. If any Y6 parents have photos that we can use, please pass them on to Mary (Mount), Beckie (Herbert) or Rob (Minto) – or email the PTA as usual: brookfieldschoolpta@gmail.com.

We know that the yearbook is a special item for Brookfield leavers, so please do look through your photo archives to help make it as compelling and rich as possible.

*** ICE CREAM FRIDAY ***

Well that escalated quickly. Get in the heatwave mood with with an ice cream in the playground today (Friday).

*** OPEN AFTERNOON – BOOK CORNER ***

We are looking for parents and carers to help with setting up a book corner in the hall for the open afternoon (Thursday 11th July) please let the office or your teacher know. It just involves moving a few books and some soft seating down from classrooms, but we need a few helping hands.
