SCHOOL NEWS

Welcome back to all our children and families after the half term break. This week, our year 1 classes have enjoyed trips to the Camden Learning Centre to learn about 3D model printing and our football teams were successful at the Camden league finals-well done! Today, year 3 have embraced collage in their Fantastic Arts at Brookfield illustration workshops. We are looking forward to welcoming back Ivy to 5A next week and Lev to 1L. We hope to see lots of parents and carers at the reading workshop next Thursday.

Thursday 7th March is World Book Day!

This year, we will be starting World Book Day  with a workshop for parents. Claire Cox, Brookfield’s new Educational Psychologist, will host a session that will provide parents with strategies for reading with children at home. The workshop will be in the bottom hall and run from 9.05-9.50. All parents are welcome to attend!

Parents are also warmly invited to join their child in their classroom to enjoy a story with them at the end of the school day. Please arrive at the office at 2.55pm.

We will also have our annual ‘Bedtime Stories’ from 5.00- 5.30. Children are welcome to come back into school, accompanied by a parent/carer, to enjoy settling down with a hot chocolate and listening to a range of stories read by members of staff. The EYFS and KS1 session will take place in the library, KS2 in the computing suite. Wearing comfy clothes or pyjamas and bringing along a favourite teddy bear is very much encouraged!

There will be a book sale in the bottom hall after school where children can exchange their £1 token for a free book, or use the voucher towards a higher priced book. Children attending clubs on a Thursday will have the opportunity to visit the sale from 3pm with their year group learning support assistant.

Please look at the World Book Day letter for details about what else will be happening at the school on the day.

Y1 TRIP TO THE CLC

In the morning we used a program to design a London landmark building that was then sent to be 3-D printed. After, we used the beebots to program and code routes for them to travel across maps and boards.

SEND PLANNING MEETINGS

Spring term SEND Planning Meetings will take place in the weeks beginning 11th and 18th March. Letters with dates and times will be sent home in children’s backpacks on Tuesday 5th March.

TRIPS AND WORKSHOPS PAYMENTS

As we near the end of the financial year, if you haven’t yet contributed towards trips and workshops for your child(ren), there is still time! Any contribution is welcome and will help us maintain this important provision. Children eligible for Pupil Premium are not asked to contribute.

SPORTS NEWS

A massive CONGRATULATIONS to our boys and girls team’s who both won the Camden league finals! The boys peaked at the right time and after a slow start to the league they have most certainly ended on the ultimate high! No boys team has won this title before, another first for Brookfield! Well done to Aaron who guided the team all the way. Also, not only did the girls win, they went undefeated and did not concede a goal all season!

Sadly, the London Youth Games organisers have opted not to continue with football. We have requested further information as to why this has been decided.

Our league winning Netball team will compete at the London Youth Games on Thursday 28th March. Those involved will soon receive a letter with further information.

This coming Tuesday 5th March children from Y3/4 are taking part in a football festival. They will return to school by lunch time.

The Y6 dance squad will be performing at The Place next Saturday 9th March. They will need to be there for 12.45 as our technical rehearsal is at 13.15. A letter was sent today with info regarding the event which is in the evening. Collection of your child is from The Place approx 8.15pm! Tickets for the show are all sold out.

We will receive filmed footage of the show a few weeks after the dance festival and I will share information as to how you can purchase a copy.

Also, all of Y5 will be participating in a dance project which will also be shared at another Camden dance festival. The date for the Y5 performance is Wednesday 8th May and is in the evening. You will need to purchase tickets for the event and collection will be after the show from The Place, which is near Euston Square. A letter with more information will follow shortly.

I have managed to pick up a hair line fracture on a metatarsal and will therefore be unable to run the running club for the next two weeks. I am saving myself for the upcoming half marathon next Sunday. I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me so far; I really appreciate your support. For those who would like to sponsor me or find out more about the charity I am supporting you can visit my just giving page: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/haseeb

CLUBS NEWS

The second half term of club fees is now due (£20 per club), if you haven’t done so already, please make payment to the office in cash or cheque. Thank you!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

This half terms lunches are £72.

Easter Holiday 2019 and absences at the start of the Summer term

As you will be aware, the Easter school holidays fall unusually late this year. The first day of the summer term is 23rd April, the day after Easter Monday. Camden Education Welfare have asked all schools to remind parents that if leave is not authorised or not requested well in advance, then the school will be required to refer cases to the Education Welfare Officer who will consider issuing a penalty notice (fine). Requests for leave during term time are actively discouraged and exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis.

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS FOR LINDA (LSA)

Unfortunately we’ve recently had our last school parking permit denied which means our wonderful Y2 LSA, Linda, can no longer park close to school. We’re appealing to our school community to help us find an alternative parking arrangement for Linda as she drives to and from Luton everyday! If you think you might be able to help in any way, please get in touch with the office. Thank you!

EASTER GYM CAMP

Highgate Newtown Gymnastics Club are running an exciting easter camp here at Brookfield! More information can be found on their flyer.

*** EASY FUNDRAISING DRIVE***

If you buy (almost) anything online, signing up to Easyfundraising will also help the school.

Simply sign up on Easyfundraising at this link: http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/brookfield-primary-highgate/

It costs you nothing – the retailer donates to the school.

It doesn’t cost you anything, and takes just a few moments to sign up. You don’t have to be a school parent either – ask family and friends to sign up too. Even if you only shop online occasionally, if we all sign up it can make a difference.
