Please do look at the school calendar for all events this term and term dates here.

I am delighted to be writing this newsletter as Brookfield’s new headteacher! I am so excited to have been appointed and am looking forward to leading Brookfield on its next chapter. We have ended the half term in style and welcomed Y1 parents to fundraise for orangutans, Y2 parents to meet the chicks and see the children’s writing and Y4 parents to share their dance performances. Yesterday children shared musical performances in assembly and today was RE day where several parents came and talked about their faiths. I wish you all a wonderful half term break.

CURRICULUM NEWS

SEND planning meetings will be taking place in March and Katherine will send you a letter with your meeting date and time by the 1st March. She would also like to bring to your attention: Camden Special Educational Needs will be hosting a drop in session at 5 Pancras Square on 12th March 2019 between 10 and 12 where you can meet with one of the team to discuss any queries. Please email SEN.Enquiries@camden.gov.uk with your name and phone number so that we can call you back to book you an appointment with the right person. Appointment times will initially be for 10 minutes. In cases where follow up work may be required we will  agree next steps with you.

CAMDEN MATHS CHALLENGE

On Wednesday Dora, Cyrus, Dougal and Grace from Year 6 took part in the Camden Maths Challenge. The event was held at Eleanor Palmer School and was a grueling day where the four children had to solve maths puzzles and tasks as a team. They did Brookfield proud by coming in third place – an amazing achievement!

CHINESE NEW YEAR ASSEMBLY

Last week, Ting (mum of Sophia and Shenna) came in to school to deliver an assembly on Chinese New Year. Thank you

Y1 SPONSORED OBSTACLE COURSE FOR THE ORANGUTAN FOUNDATION

We raised £304 for the Orangutan foundation because we were learning about orangutans and the dangers to their homes. Humans are chopping down the trees and using the space for palm oil. This has got to stop!

It is still happening so we decided to tell everyone by running an obstacle and wearing orange on Thursday.

We want to thank everyone who wore orange or donated money for this special cause.

Y3 DT PROJECT

Year 3’s DT project this term has seen children designing and hand-stitching their own cushions. Children selected their fabrics and learnt how to successfully thread needles and complete a variety of stitch types. What a fantastic effort! And as an added bonus, we used waste fabrics, which nods to our Right of the Term – the right to a clean environment!

Y3 VISIT UCL

Year 3 visited University College London’s Geology school to explore different rock types and fossils, as well as making our own volcanoes and designing earthquake-proof buildings. We had a fantastic, exciting and learning-filled day!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

This half terms lunches were £69.

Kids’ Film Club = a big success

Over 150 people packed in to the school hall on Tuesday night for the third DPFC KIDS Film Club. The evening was designed to inspire the children and teach them about animation. We watched 30 (short) animations made by children and it was clear from the very first one that the standard has massively increased since last year. We were lucky to have two award winning animators come and show us their work: Osbert Parker, who lives locally and showed us his BAFTA nominated film along with his sketch book reminding the kids to keep things or images they find creatively interesting and Andrew Ruhemann, founder and CEO of the hugely successful animation company, Passion Pictures, spoke to the children about the importance of storytelling, and showed his Oscar-winning animation The Lost Thing. The event raised over £700 for the school. A huge thank you to Lizzie and her team for organising such an inspiring event.

*** EASY FUNDRAISING DRIVE***

If you buy (almost) anything online, signing up to Easyfundraising will also help the school.

Simply sign up on Easyfundraising at this link: http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/brookfield-primary-highgate/

It costs you nothing – the retailer donates to the school.

It doesn’t cost you anything, and takes just a few moments to sign up. You don’t have to be a school parent either – ask family and friends to sign up too. Even if you only shop online occasionally, if we all sign up it can make a difference.
