WINTER FAIR HIGHLIGHTS
Many thanks to all those who braved the grey skies to turn out for another heartwarming and festive Winter Fair. As always, there was a wonderful Christmas atmosphere with lots of fun things to do. Highlights of the Winter Fair were: Santa’s Grotto, our 2 choirs; the Gingerbread Competition and Leanne’s eco friendly drive. As always, judging the Gingerbread Competition was nigh on impossible – the standard of entries was superb!
Many thanks to Leanne and Elaine for organising The Winter Fair, to Ali and Tabitha for decorating the hall and Santa’s Grotto, to all those parents/carers who either donated items or helped out on the day and to Elaine, Eliane, Lucy, Philip, Rachel, Derek, the office staff and Junior for all their help behind the scenes.
Poignantly, this was my last Winter Fair and once again testament to Brookfield’s wonderful community spirit!
£50 NOTE DESIGN FOR THINK SCIENCE!
Carla (Science Subject Leader) writes
The Bank of England is looking for nominations for someone who has contributed to science to feature on the new £50 note and many people feel that it should be a woman.
You can nominate as many people as you like. But anyone who appears on the new £50 note must:
- have contributed to the field of science
- be real – so no fictional characters please
- not be alive – Her Majesty the Queen is the only exception
- have shaped thought, innovation, leadership or values in the UK
- inspire people, not divide them
You can suggest anyone who has contributed to the fields of pure or applied science. That could include: astronomy, biology, bio-technology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, medical research, physics, technology and zoology. Suggestions include Ada Lovelace, Caroline Herschel or Rosalind Franklin.
You can visit: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/50-pound-note-nominations to print out a note design sheet or ask your teacher for one.
SPORTS NEWS
Tomorrow, Tuesday 4th the Y5 and 6 football team have a match at 4pm. We will return to school by 5pm.
On Thursday 6th a mixed Y5 and 6 boys team will take part in football friendlies at Gospel Oak with a private school. The team should return to school by 5.30pm.
Last Wednesday our Y4 bench ball team took part in a competition. The A’s finished 7th and the B’s 4th respectively. Regardless of the outcome both teams enjoyed the event and had a great time.
As I mentioned last week, I am launching a skipping challenge. The challenge is:
1. How many times you can skip consecutively/ without stopping in a minute. (I managed 47)
2. To simply skip for a minute.
However, (ideally) each day, or whenever you can, try to increase your time by 10 seconds.
Happy skipping!! I will check in before the Christmas holidays and in the new year!
