CURRICULUM NEWS

OPEN AFTERNOON

This Thursday, will be Open Afternoon and we are really looking forward to meeting you all to discuss how your children have settled in at the start of the year. If you haven’t yet booked an appointment, it’s still not too late – please send in your slip tomorrow and we will book you a slot. Refreshments will be on sale in the school hall, including a taster session from Junior and his team. Rachel Hermer and Caren Gestetner from ‘Lifting Limits’ will also be available in the school hall to talk about the exciting work which they will be doing at Brookfield this year regarding gender stereotyping.

School will close at 1:45pm, please make arrangements to pick up your children as there will be no play centre or clubs taking place.

BROOKFIELD FUN RUN

Many thanks to all those who braved the elements to turn out for our annual Fun Run. We had an encouraging turn out and both children and adults participated enthusiastically

Congratulations to the following teams for coming 1st ‘Don’t pop me I’m a bubble’, 2nd ‘Under the Sea Explorers’  and 3rd ‘The Marines’ in the fancy dress competition

and to the following teams for finishing 1st ‘Under the sea explorers’ – Ned, Theo, Luke (3L) Liam, Harry 3L and Teddy, 2nd ‘20,000 Clemmies under the sea’ – Clemmie and Darren and 3rd ‘The Marines’ – Hector, Rex and Dan in the race itself.

A special word of thanks to Collette for organising the event and to all those parents who got involved as stewards, race marshals etc. If you weren’t able to take part, but would like to sponsor one of the teams, I’m sure this would be much appreciated!

Please bring in your sponsorship money into the office before half term!

PARENT HUB

After half term we will be using a new platform to communicate with you. Parent Hub is an app that’s completely FREE to download and use and allows us to send out messages, letters and information really easily and all from one place! The app is available on iPhone and Android – please download it today!

You will receive an invitation to join by text later today. Follow the instructions and subscribe to the school’s main channel, (@BrookfieldCamden) You can also choose to subscribe to the year groups your children are in. If you have any issues please pop into the office and we will try and help! Alternatively, you can find helpful registration instructions on the Parent Hub website here .

RIGHTS AMBASSADORS

Thank you to all the children who applied to be a Rights Ambassador. I could see how carefully you had thought about the role and how you want to improve Brookfield.

Unfortunately I could only pick one child from each class and this made my job very hard! The following children will be this years Rights Ambassadors:

3L: Tommy

3M: Annie

4E: Zach

4L: Freya

5L: Heavyn

5A: Rae

6K: Aasim

6A: Arjumand

I look forward to working with you.

MORE READING CHALLENGE WINNERS

Congratulations to the following children for also completing the Summer Reading Challenge – Boris (1C) Skye (2L) and Marie (4E)

SPORTS NEWS

I’d like to say a massive congratulations to both our A and B netball team! Both finished second in their league to qualify for the finals which will be played Monday 15th at LSU from 4pm to 5.30pm.

Children from 4E took part in a ‘mixed school’ dodgeball tournament last week. They all had a great time and a few of them managed to come back with medals too!

This Wednesday 10th we are taking another team from 4L to take part in a benchball tournament. Please can parents make sure slips are returned. I will also need one parent to help with the journey there – please let me know if you’re available!

Morning running club starts again this Wednesday at 8am! We meet up next to Bistro La entrance (opposite zebra crossing). We go for a run and return to school for hot cocoa and a little rest before school starts. All abilities are welcome and so are parents and siblings! I will be there to supervise but will not be able to run due to some pre -existing injuries 🙁

I completed my penultimate race for the year on Saturday; the Spartan BEAST – it was brutal! 14.1 miles, 35 obstacles, rain, wind and my injuries. I completed it in 4 hours 38 minutes placing me 1,282 out of 3,432 runners. I had to walk (drag!) myself along the last two miles but still managed to complete 33 out of 35 obstacles and cross the finish line for a well earned medal!

As my medal says: “Push Harder” and “Kataktw” which is Greek for capture, conquer, carry. I will now use this to carry my pain, capture my fears and conquer all challenges before me! What will you do? I am Haseeb, THIS IS BROOKFIELD and as the Spartans say – AROO!

CLUBS NEWS

I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to ‘The Toy Project’ based in Junction Road for their recent donation of Lego for our Lego club. The Toy Project are a fantastic organisation who recycle your unwanted, new and used TOYS and gives them to children who need them.

Please note that there will be no clubs on Thursday due to Open Afternoon. Children should be collected at 1:45pm.

AND FINALLY

MARK’S RESIGNATION

Today you would have received a letter from myself regarding the fact that I will be leaving at Christmas. I just wanted to reiterate how much I have enjoyed being your Headteacher for the last 10 years and to thank you for all your support and encouragement. Laurel will stepping us as acting Head Teacher and Katherine as acting Deputy Head Teacher in January, whilst the governors look to appoint my successor.

We are also still looking for volunteers to help serve pizza/hot chocolate on Halloween, even for half an hour. The PTA relies on kindly souls who put their hand up. Please don’t ignore these imploring messages, assuming the usual suspects will do it – email us to say you’ll do a stint!
