CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS – 3RD YEAR IN A ROW !!!

I am delighted to report that Brookfield are the CSSA Cross Country Champions for the 3rd year in succession. This is an AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT! The children competed against 26 other schools and beat Christ Church NW3 and Gospel Oak into 2nd and 3rd place. As well as winning the overall title, there were many individual and team successes too. These were as follows:

INDIVIDUAL SUCCESSES

Y3 girls – Maya (6th) Ruby (9th)

Y5 girls – Heavyn (5th) Nzezal (11th) and Emelia (13th)

Y6 boys – George (2nd) Jahleel (3rd) and Oscar (9th)

Y6 girls – Zoe (2nd) Chloe (15th) and Bella (19th)

TEAM SUCCESSES

Top Y3 girls team – Maya, Ruby, Sofia and Lily T

Top Y6 boys team – George, Jahleel, Gwyn and Jake

This has once again been an amazing team effort and great credit to every single child who ran their  hearts out. A particular word of thanks extends to Haseeb for his boundless enthusiasm and support (including his early morning runs with children and parents on the heath) and to all those parents who either turned up to support on the day or who have been running with their children in the build up.

If you would like to join Haseeb’s running club and begin preparing for next year’s CSSA Cross Country (ha ha), then we start next week Wednesday 10th October at 8am. We meet at the entrance to Hampstead Heath opposite the Carob Tree restaurant.

We also have this year’s PTA Fun Run taking place this Saturday on the heath which has an underwater theme. It’s still not too late to get involved. Pick up a registration and sponsorship form from the office today.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH BEGINS

Many thanks to Louise and some Y6 children for launching Black History Month in assembly today. During the next few weeks, we will be celebrating Black History Month in a range of different ways including: assemblies, lessons, workshops and trips. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Louise to let her know. Her email address is l.gaunson@brookfield.camden.sch.uk

PETRIE MUSEUM WORKSHOPS WITH Y3

Lillie writes; On Thursday, Year 3 were visited by the fantastic Petrie Museum at UCL to explore mummification in Ancient Egypt. The children were treated to an interactive session, where children were guided through each stage of mummification, as if on the banks of the River Nile! They also got to handle genuine Ancient Egyptian artefacts, such as amulets, that would have been used in mummification burials. These were over 3000 years old!

FRIDAY’S BOOK SALE

Many thanks to Katie and fellow teachers for staging a book sale last Friday in the infant playground. We sold over 100 books and raised £50 for the school. The money will be used to top up our literacy resources. As we still have lots of great books left over, we will be be holding another sale this coming Thursday in the KS2 playground. Picture books will be selling for 20p and other books for 50p. Do come along and snap up some bargains.

OWL BOOKSHOP VISITS

As we clear out some of our older books, we are really looking forward to visiting The Owl Bookshop in Kentish Town to buy some new ones for our book corners. We are so grateful to the PTA for donating £150 per class to make this possible. Thank you!
