PHOTOS OF THE WEEK

Many thanks to Lawrence Cendrowicz for taking some lovely photos at the end of last year. We’re hoping to upload some of these to the school’s web-site in due course.

Y5 AND Y6 CURRICULUM MEETINGS

This week, it is the turn of the Y5 and Y6 parents/carers to hear about what their children will be learning about this year. The meetings will be taking place in the lower hall and will consist of a presentation and some refreshments. Do come along if you can. For those who weren’t able to attend the meetings, the curriculum letters and presentations will be uploaded onto the school’s web-site in due course.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Louise writes – This October it’s Black History Month. While it’s true for many of us, that remembering and celebrating black lives should be all year round, nonetheless it’s an important time in school to remember stories and people who might otherwise get overlooked in our tight curriculum and in our society. We’re going to focus on some lesser known people this time round, (as well as those more famous), ones close to home, some who are international and more women as well as men in diverse roles! We have some great activities lined up including dance workshops with ‘African Stories’ and storytelling workshops with Usifu Jalloh, an inspirational performer known as ‘The Cowfoot Prince’. Year 5 will also be going to the Windrush exhibition at the British Library. Would you like to come to our first assembly to start the month? It will be next Monday 1st October in the bottom hall at 10:30. It’s time for voices to be heard, stories to be told and diversity to be celebrated!

READING CHALLENGE

Last term, I promised that anybody who managed to complete the Reading Challenge, would receive a £5 book voucher courtesy of one of our parents. If you haven’t yet sent in your certificate or other proof of completion, please do so by the end of the week. Vouchers will be awarded next week and your name will also be featured in the newsletter.

BOOK SALE – FRIDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER

On Friday we’re going to be holding a book sale in the infant playground. We’ve got some great books up for grabs and will be selling them for between 20p-50p!

CROSS COUNTRY

This Friday, our Cross Country Team will be taking part in the annual CSSA Cross Country Championships. We have won the championship 2 years in a row! Will this be 3rd time lucky? Why not come along to find out.

MEET THE PARENTS

Our annual Meet the Parents event will be taking place tonight between 6.30pm – 7.30pm in 4L. Families from the local state secondary schools will be here, to give you the most up-do-date information about their school experience.  Parents from all year groups are welcome at this invaluable event, where you can ask any questions you want and also talk privately to panelists afterwards.  We will have representation from Acland Burghley, Parliament Hill and William Ellis schools. To find out more, go to www.meettheparents.info

Look forward to seeing you there.

SPORTS NEWS

The swimming provision for Y4 resumed today. I do need parent helpers to support with the journey to and from the pool, please let me know if you’re able to help!

The Netball squad have matches tonight. Our last game will finish by 5.10pm. If you collect your child from LSU then please be there on time otherwise we will return to Brookfield by 5.30pm. You are always welcome to come and cheer the teams along.

This Wednesday there is a mixed school dodgeball tournament for Y4 children at Talacre. Thank you to the parents who confirmed that they are able to help. The tournament finishes at 5.45pm and collection is from Talacre.

This Friday is the Cross country competition! There is an excitement around the school as we are back to back champs! We hope we can race well enough to win it a third time! Please speak to your child to prepare them emotionally/ mentally for the event as it can be quite overwhelming. We only ask that the children try their best and not to worry too much about where they finish.

*This year’s route has been revised due to safety concerns on the usual route. This will be confirmed by the end of today and I will share the map once I have it.

We will be leaving school at 10.30am and the first race will be approx 11.15am. Again, if you can help with the event it would be appreciated. We have to attach the chip timers and bibs to the children which takes time so the more the merrier!

The events are as follows:

Year 4 girls, then boys 1 lap           START 11.15am

Year 3 girls, then boys 1 lap           START 11.35am

Year 5 girls, then boys 1 ½ laps     START 12pm

Year 6 girls, then boys 1 ½ laps     START 12.30pm

We do not rise to the level of our expectation but fall to the level of our training” wise old Haseeb h.khan@brookfield.camden.sch.uk

Our first PTA meeting of the year will be this Tuesday, 9-9.30am in the lower Hall. New parents are especially welcome – we’ll be introducing ourselves and letting you know what the PTA does for YOU and the SCHOOL.

***CORRECTION***

The Fun Run is actually going to be on 6th October. Please put the date in your diaries, and more soon.

We are still missing reps for a number of classes. Existing reps: if you are carrying on being a rep, thank you, and can you please let us know? If you want to hand over but haven’t found anyone to take over yet, please also let us know.

We are also looking for someone to shadow us with a view to becoming a new co-chair/treasurer from January. Please contact us if you are interested in knowing more.
