NURSERY AND YR SHAKESPEARE SHOWCASES

Congratulations to our nursery and reception children who took part in some wonderful showcases of A Midsummer Night’s Dream just before half term. The children demonstrated great enthusiasm for their learning and performed with real confidence and personality. A special word of thanks extends to Kate and other members of the Shakespeare Schools Foundation team and to all our teachers for supporting the children so well.  A video of part of Nursery’s showcase will be uploaded to the school’s web-site shortly.

RIGHT OF THE MONTH

Doris (4C) writes:

“June is a new month and we will be focusing on the right to relax and play (Article 31). This right matters because if you’ve had a hard day, you need to relax, and if you’ve worked really hard you would want to play/relax. If you enjoy sports, it is respecting your right to play, because sports is fun. Also, in P.E. you play lots of games as well. This right is also important because you need to sleep, and sleep is relaxing. This is a right of  child because playing and relaxing is part of your childhood. To get through each day, you need to both play and relax.”

PYJAMA FUNDRAISING DAY

Next Friday 15th June school council are fundraising for some new playground equipment. Children are encouraged to come into school dressed in pyjamas. A suggested donation of £1 or £2 will be collected on the gate!

PARENT / CARER’S SURVEY

Many thanks to all those who participated in the annual parent/carer’s survey. In total we had 166 responses – the highest response to date – which was fabulous! Over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at the feedback and then sharing a summary with you all.

SPORTS NEWS

There will be no morning clubs this week. Please remember that from next week, Girls football squad training will be on Tuesday morning  and running will move to Wednesday mornings.

Y5 and Y6 continue their Athletic trials on the track this afternoon. We will leave straight after school, finishing at 5.30pm. Unless you have provided written permission for your child to walk home, collection is from the track at 5:30pm.

This Friday the Y5 and Y6 football team have a tournament. It is being held at Coram’s Fields and we will return before the end of the day.

Y3 swimming will continue as normal from Monday.

I’m missing a huge amount of school sports kit; both white full sleeve v neck top’s with red lining and red or white t-shirt’s with ‘Brookfield Sports Team’ written on the back. There are more than 25 missing! I suspect that some of the children who were in the swim gala, Y3/4 football team, benchball and dodgeball teams may have taken some home with them. We have a few competitions coming up this month and it would be a massive shame if some children are unable to wear the school kit. Please have a look at home and hand anything you may find into me. Thanks!

News from the Office

ARRIVING TO SCHOOL ON TIME

Whilst aspects of our attendance have started to demonstrate great progress this year (thank you so much) – we have still got some concerns regarding punctuality. Please would you make sure that your child arrives to school by 8.55am at the latest. We now operate ‘Soft Starts’ in both playgrounds which means that children can make their way upstairs from 8.50am.

Whilst I appreciate there will be occasional mornings where this proves difficult (issues with public transport etc), this should be the exception rather than the norm. Unfortunately we still have some families arriving late. We will be monitoring this situation carefully over the next few weeks and meeting with families who require additional support and assistance. Thank you!

HIGHGATE NEWTOWN GYM CLUB PARKOUR SESSIONS AT BROOKFIELD
