CURRICULUM NEWS

TRANSITION MEETING

Many thanks to all those parents/carers who attended the YR- Y1 transition meeting. We had over 30 parents in attendance. The presentation was well received and my thanks extends to Katherine and Laurel for leading the session and laying on the refreshments.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

During today’s assembly, Laura drew attention to the forthcoming School Council Elections. Elections will take place next week and manifestos will need to be written and submitted by this Friday – Monday morning at the latest. School Council is open for next years year’s 1 – 6.

RESPONSE TO THE PARENTS  / CARERS SURVEY

Thank you once again to the 166 parents / carers who filled in this year’s survey. A record number! Results of these will be shared via the school’s web-site and emailed to families later this week.

BROOKFIELD DEBATING CHAMPIONS!

Belated congratulations are due to the Brookfield Debating Team. Back in May, the teams attended the Highgate Chrysalis Debating Tournament at Highgate School.

The competition saw four teams enter into the first round, for which the motion was ‘This House believes that immigration into the UK should be limited ’. Pupils had been given this motion in advance and their intensive research yielded some interesting and challenging concepts.

The blue team went on to compete in the final round against Highgate School where they argued against the motion that humans should eat meat. The children argued intelligently and persuasively and won! The head judge later praised their confidence and eloquence. The whole team should be immensely proud of themselves for such a fantastic performance!

SPORTS NEWS

Tomorrow, Tuesday 26th June is KS2 sports day! The children will leave school straight after registration. If you’re coming to watch, please arrive for 9.30am, we will be aiming to finish before midday and will be back to school for lunch. It is forecasted to be very HOT!!

PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD WITH A HAT, SUNSCREEN AND PLENTY OF WATER!

The children will represent their House and it would be really nice if they wore house colours too!

The Do’s for sport day

Wear sports clothing

Wear TRAINERS, HATS & SUNSCREEN

Bring WATER

The don’ts for sport day

Forget any of the DO’s!!!

Blame the School because you forgot!

As always, once the children’s events are all finished we will start the Teacher’s v Parent’s events. Just a few activities for FUN. If you are considering in participating, then have a think about what you decide to wear 🙂

This Friday the Y3 / Y4 Athletic squad will be competing on the heath. The event will last all day and the weather is likely to be very hot, please follow the sports day guidance.

It is great to see the reception children on their brand new balance bikes! There are many studies that support the link between good balance and good hand writing. I really hope this gives my little team a head start in their learning.

My qoute for the week is more of something I try to do daily:

“Be happy, be grateful and the end of something brings the start of something new” wise old Haseeb,

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

MEL’S MATERNITY

This week will be Mel’s last week before her maternity starts and we would like to wish her all the best for the coming few weeks.

PARKING SAFELY

This week, we will be placing some new traffic cones both on Chester and Croftdown Road, to dissuade parents / carers from stopping outside the school to drop their children off. Whilst we recognise that it might be convenient for parents/carers to do so, it puts the safety of our children at risk. We trust that we can count on your full support and co-operation!

CLASS PHOTOS

Every Pupil Premium child is entitled to one free item from the class photo list. If your child would like a copy, please circle the item you’d like to order on the form and hand it into Sophie with PP noted at the top. Any additional items will need to be purchased at the price listed on the form. If you need another copy of the form, this can be collected from Sophie.
