Curriculum news
Rohingya Muslims Appeal
Many thanks to all those who took part in last week’s fundraising for The Rohingya Muslims Appeal. Lots of you donated money on the gates and several children also took part in sponsored events. Chaya (Y5) was one of several children who gave up something during the week to help support the Rohingyas. She chose to forego the comfort of her own bed for the bath tub and in the process raised over £200. What an amazing achievement! If you also took part in a sponsored event, I would love to hear from you and share your achievements in the next newsletter. In the meantime, please continue to collect in any oustanding sponsorship money and hand it into the school office so we can work out how much money we have raised althogether. Any further donations to the appeal can also be dropped off in the school office and added to the total. Thank you so much everybody. The money really will make a difference!
Y1 and Y2 Shakespeare Showcases
Congratulations to Years 1 and 2 for sharing some fabulous renditions of The Tempest to parents / carers last week. The children performed with great confidence and enthusiasm and it was encouraging to see so many parents / carers in attendance.
Francesca from the Shakespeare Schools Foundation emailed the Y1 and Y2 staff with the following:
‘Just to say a big congratulations from Kate and myself for everything you’ve achieved this week and over the last half term. You went above and beyond what we expected, extending the sessions brilliantly into the classroom and rehearsing tirelessly for your showcase – plus making beautiful costumes, power points and sound tracks. The joy the children had in telling the story was really telling. They were lovely groups to work with and we really looked forward to our sessions with you every fortnight. I had some lovely conversations with parents after the performances, not least a mum who said her son had been talking about nothing but The Tempest for weeks. This is the height of our ambition – that the children will remember this as a fun and exciting achievement and will feel they can own Shakespeare and his stories.’
I’d also like to take this opportunity to pass on my congratulations too. Kate, Francesca and the Y1 and Y2 teachers have really brought the play to life with great enthusiasm and commitment and this has been a really powerful and memorable introduction to Shakespeare for some of our youngest children. Well done everybody!
A video of the Y2’s Tempest Rap has been uploaded onto the the web-site under News and Events. Do take a look at it. The rap was written by the children and staff and is really impressive!
Rock Steady Concert
Congratulations to all our budding Rock Stars for some spirited performances last week at this term’s Rock Steady Concert. Dan (The Music Man) drew attention to the fact that all the groups had learned not one, but 2 songs this term, which was an amazing accomplishment. Many thanks to Dan for organising the concert and to all the children’s adoring fans (family and friends) who turned out to support their children.
Also a big congratulations to all those children who performed in last week’s Infant Concert as well. Again it was great to see so many parents/carers in attendance. This week it will be the turn of the Juniors to peform in their concert on Thursday at 10.00am.

The Y5 boys Sport4All football friendly is this Wednesday at Talacre. I will be sending a reminder letter to those involved.
The girls friendly matches will be in the new year on Wednesday 10th January 2018; a letter will be sent out to the girls involved when we return.
Y4 resume swimming when we return and will have lessons Monday 8th January 2018. For some, the festive time is busy but I would urge you to make some time to take your child swimming so they don’t regress.

The first and final wake ‘n shake for KS2 this year will be Friday 15th December at 8:30am in the junior playground. Attendance is mandatory and we will all be dancing our way in to the start of the day!

Clubs news
Offer letters for your selected clubs will be out tomorrow. Please return the reply slips along with payment before Thursday 14th December to confirm your space.
Apologies in advance to those who were not offered a space in the after school club they selected. Clubs are (particularly for the infants) very oversubscribed. We have done our best to allocate places fairly, prioritising those who missed out last term.
